wilfredo Posted January 30, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 30, 2007 I think the second shot works best for its panoramic value. Cheers, Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography
azzo Posted January 30, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 30, 2007 2nd..with slightly more sky, till where some dark blue is showing on top of where you've cropped, IMHO. Very nice capture btw. Azzo

Rolo Posted January 30, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 30, 2007 David, this is a lovely image. Well done and I'm not surprised your friend wants it on his wall. I propose the attached crop because I feel this print should have high impact and although I like panoramics they have to be very wide to compensate for the loss of square inches. The probelem with the sky you posted is, IMO, depressing the print and lacks interest. The detail is there, but hidden and needs to be brought out and given more life. Ultimately, there is too much of it and it's so heavy that I think it should suffer a crop. A different day and a full sky may work for you. I'm sure your friend will be delighted with your end product and will appreciate the hard work you put into it. Rolo
stuny Posted January 30, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) David - Definitely Rolo's version.
arminw Posted January 30, 2007 Share #8 Posted January 30, 2007 Not that it matters, because it has all been said before, but a crop is what I vote for .
mhanke Posted January 30, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 30, 2007 I'd vote for a compromise between the original and Rolo's version. the latter emphasize the highlights on the middle ground, in fron tof the mountain chain. That is important, since this detail is almost lost in the original. However, it tends to dominate the really fasincating subject, the white mountain chain in the background. Therefore I would tone down the brightness in the gentle hills, so that they are still noticed, but merely lead the view to the mountains in the distance. kamilsukun Posted January 30, 2007 Share #12 Posted January 30, 2007 David, My humble vote goes to cropped version. Thanks for sharing.
jmr Posted January 30, 2007 Share #13 Posted January 30, 2007 David, I think you should crop. I really like Rolo's version. You might want to consider pushing it further - I guess it depends on the setting for the final print and just how shouty you want it to be. If you want loud (and not subtle) then something like this might suit.
ddp Posted January 30, 2007 Share #14 Posted January 30, 2007 I say cropped...
davidmires Posted January 31, 2007 Author Share #15 Posted January 31, 2007 Thanks for taking the time to comment, everyone. I've decided to send it to David Adamson for printing. Here's what I have ended up with. Not too much drama, because it is going to be printed about 40" wide, and I think there is enough detail to carry it. I would like to coax a little bit more drama out of the sky, hopefully without going overboard. I'll see what David can do with it...
lambroving Posted February 1, 2007 Share #16 Posted February 1, 2007 Hello David, Sure looks like Colorado! Think I prefer August. Is this off your deck or at a ski resort? Which range is that? As you ask, I like Rolo's crop but agree with Marcus about the levels. More the way I remember it. Nice catch!
mitchell Posted February 2, 2007 Share #17 Posted February 2, 2007 I like your final version the best. Nice shot. I think it's very easy to go to far reving up an image. Best, Mitchell
tobey bilek Posted February 2, 2007 Share #18 Posted February 2, 2007 Do not crop. I like the light and dark areas, but you need to lighten the darks, sky and forground, but don`t over do it.
Peter41951 Posted February 2, 2007 Share #19 Posted February 2, 2007 You can always crop after printing! Lovely vista.
robert_parker Posted February 2, 2007 Share #20 Posted February 2, 2007 I like your final version and I'm sure your friend will love it but I must be one of the few that really liked the uncropped version - the image is more conventional cropped - uncropped it says something different to me. In the cropped one the main players are the mountains and the trees, in the uncropped one, it's the SKY.
