wilfredo Posted January 30, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All: Â I just wanted to share that I got the letter from Solms today offering a 30% discount for a new Leica lens shipped directly from Solms. The letter stated that this offer is being extended to anyone who paid for an M8 on or before December 31st. It took a month to receive the letter, but its here. It is a real tempation to take advantage of the offer, and it is good until the end of June. Â Cheers, Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography

Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 30, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 30, 2007 I got my 2 today also. Now what, spend more money. My wife would hang me. LOL
colorflow Posted January 30, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 30, 2007 Got mine a few days ago. More equipment is the last thing I need right now. I need to learn to use the ones I already have. Still seems a pity not to take advantage of the discount. Â Alan
LJL Posted January 30, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 30, 2007 You still have a good five months to exercise the option, and you can shoot a lot during that time ;-) Too much equipment is really not that bad a thing if you use it. Â LJ
marknorton Posted January 30, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 30, 2007 Yes, easy to lose objectivitiy when the red haze of the word "discount" descends...
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 30, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 30, 2007 5 months that is pretty good actually. I will tuck them away for now
colorflow Posted January 30, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) More like five minus two months accounting for my M8's two month trip to Solms. Been trying to delay that, but it's about time to go. Â Alan
wilfredo Posted January 30, 2007 Author Share #8  Posted January 30, 2007 Even with the discount the lens I'm interested in, 50mm Summilux is still a bit over $2000.00 so I may have to pass on the offer  Cheers, Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography
carstenw Posted January 30, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 30, 2007 What lenses do you have now, Wilfredo? I have the 50 Lux Asph, and although it is a great lens, I found pretty quickly that as a walk-about lens it is a touch too long, and I found myself being happier with a 35 Cron Asph instead. The 50 is still great for portraits and such. It is probably a 52mm lens, like previous Leica 50s have been, making it nearly 70mm on the M8.
wilfredo Posted January 30, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted January 30, 2007 Carsten, Â I have a 35mm Summicron ASPH, which is the lens I most use, a 50mm Hexanon, which I'm going to be using this week just to see what I get with it on the M8, and a 90mm Elmarit. I'm very pleased with the Hexanon on film. Â Cheers, Wilfredo+
carstenw Posted January 30, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 30, 2007 I am curious how you will end up liking the 50mm focal length on the M8. Perhaps you could also consider adding something wider, like the 21?
wilfredo Posted January 30, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted January 30, 2007 Yes, I am considering a 21mm lens, and will probably purchase one in time. Â Cheers, Wilfredo+

jonoslack Posted January 31, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted January 31, 2007 has anyone made a purchase yet using the offer? I have! I've ordered the WATE - seemed the obvious choice for landscape work, but I think that delivery may be two or three months.

herbkell Posted February 1, 2007 Share #17  Posted February 1, 2007 I registered my M8 on December 20 by email and got an email response noting the two filters I ordered.  I have heard nothing from Leica about the 30% lens offer. I did not send in the warranty card as I was told by someone that the online registration was sufficient.  I live in Canada  Should I be concerned that I have not received the 30% discount letter from Leica yet? But, I did get an email confirmation of my registration. Did you get that? I emailed Leica last Saturday night -- and got a response within an hour! Here's what they said:  "Good Evening, The letter comes from Germany... It may take awhile, probably sent from another department... You should receive it soon... Thanks... skimmel Posted February 1, 2007 Share #20  Posted February 1, 2007 I received an email confirmation of my filter order but nothing else Did you receive another email in addtiion to the filter one?  thanks  It may be the same thing. I didn't order a filter, just registered online that I paid for an M8. I think we may be talking about the same thing though. The email title was " Leica Camera - Confirmation of your Leica M8 registration". Was that yours?
