mike prevette Posted January 29, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 29, 2007 I'm in for it. I have loved lightroom beta4. It actually amazed me how much more creative and productive I was when compared to photoshop. It really has made a difference in my photography, and energy level regarding my work. Much like getting a new peice of gear that just works well for you, lightroom has just worked well for me. _mike
Guest WPalank Posted January 29, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) NAPP has added a new Lightroom 1.0 Learning center. I think even non-members can get access at : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Learning Center | Photoshop User - NAPP <spelling>
canlogic Posted January 29, 2007 Share #8 Posted January 29, 2007 bye bye........Aperture, you didn't want to support a whole bunch of cameras..... from a mac supporter Supposed to have Leica support very soon, Lightroom doesn't either. I use both and Aperture is way out ahead of Lightroom. Maybe the final version will be better.
robsteve Posted January 29, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 29, 2007 Lightroom works fine with both my DMR and M8 files. The M8 colour could be better, as it is in Adobe Camera Raw 4. I have read Lightroom 1 will be running the same RAW code and be compatible with ACR 4. This should give it better M8 colour.
carstenw Posted January 29, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 29, 2007 Well, I ran through the list of beta testers, and I am happy to say that Thomas Hoepker, Gerbil Vomit and I were all mentioned, me on the same page as "lol lol". I really like the program, but will want to test-run the final version before plopping down my money, to see if the colour has been fixed right, and the last couple of niggles, including speed, been fixed. Guest Metroman Posted January 30, 2007 Share #11 Posted January 30, 2007 I too have been using it since beta 1 and love it. The production version 1 looks even better. Have never had a speed issue with it on my Macs. Fortunately, as a registered RAWShooter premium user, I get a free copy of version 1 so I cannot complain and I can also ditch iVeiwMedia Pro now they have been sucked into the Microsoft void.............. andybarton Posted January 30, 2007 Share #12 Posted January 30, 2007 Supposed to have Leica support very soon, Lightroom doesn't either. I use both and Aperture is way out ahead of Lightroom. Maybe the final version will be better. Lightroom has had Leica support since the first beta. I have been holding my breath for Apple to support Leica DNGs for months and have seen/read nothing that suggests I can stop doing so in the near future. I think that it will come in a package, bundled with DMR firmware 1.3... If you have some positive news on this (rather than wishful thinking!) I would be delighted to see it
Bill Sievers Posted January 30, 2007 Share #13 Posted January 30, 2007 I am sorry to say that Aperture runs like a hippo on my powerbook whereas Lightroom races to the finish.

I would be delighted to see it It was in some postings I think on the Aperture forum just before Christmas. The 2 posters who were answering some questions definetly seemed to be in the know. Basically they said that Apple was working on including proper DNG supposrt and it would be in an update in the near future. Didn't specify if it was in the upcomeing os update or in Leopord or in the next Aperture update.
DaveEP Posted January 30, 2007 Share #15 Posted January 30, 2007 I am also becoming a Lightroom convert (from Beta 4 - I didn't care for Beta 1 and installing Beta 3 crashed my machine so badly I had to reinstall). However, I really want 'stacking' and I want better managment of of line images. Once those two are in place, Lightroom is a winner for me. Oh, and I would like better keyword handling too.... sc_john Posted January 30, 2007 Share #16 Posted January 30, 2007 I also liked Lightroom concept and interface, but I was plagued with crashes. I'm running on dual core 64 bit w/ WinXP64, so it may be the 64 bit architecture. Anyone else experience stability issues w/ Lightroom?

It will be February on Thursday. Which is a long way after Christmas in my book. If Apple don't add support before Lightroom hits the streets, they will have blown it completely for the majority of Mac/Leica users.

I guess we will know soon as the os update should be out in the next few days. I have been useing both and I find that overall Aperture is a much better program. I am entitled to a free copy of Lightroom so i will get to compare the 2. It will be interesting to see what Apple does in version2. When it first came out it only did an ok job of converting my 1DMKII raw's and now I think it is far better than all the others, maybe they can do the same with DNG's. spylaw4 Posted January 30, 2007 Share #20 Posted January 30, 2007 Hmm... At $199 with the current exchange rate it's about £107. When you go to the UK store to order the price is £125 (£50 reduction) and this does NOT include VAT etc etc. making the price at least £147 + shipping. Ships"by end of February 2007". Just thought you would like to know that it's irritating when the base price is not consistent across frontiers! It will however be worth it, especially as my iMac (G5 Rev. A) video card isn't good enough for Aperture!
