Arne Helme Posted January 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, any M8 NeatImage users out there? If so, have you already devised M8 noise reduction profiles for the M8? I cannot find any such profiles on the NeatImage web site If more people are interested I can coordinate some efforts to develop and test new M8 profiles for NeatImage. -- Arne

jaapv Posted January 29, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 29, 2007 Neatimage analyses the file you open, finetunes it and then you can tweak it to your taste and save the settings. So no specific profiles are needed. On 1250 ISO -if I want to reduce noise, which is certainly not always the case- I usually reduce half the noise and the tone town the high-frequency noise reduction, to keep the fine detail. jscottyk Posted February 7, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 7, 2007 Arne, I've been using NeatImagePro for a couple of years. I just received my M8 in the last week and haven't yet built the custom profiles but plan on starting tomorrow. Neatimage analyses the file you open, finetunes it and then you can tweak it to your taste and save the settings. So no specific profiles are needed. While it's true specifc files aren't needed, one can improve the performance considerably by building camera specifc profiles as described here. If anyone is interested, let me know. I'm happy to share the profiles I come up with.
Guest WPalank Posted February 7, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 7, 2007 Great Scott, Keep me in mind as I have just settled on Neat Image as my noise reduction option after doing some research! I am a mac user. Cheers!
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 7, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 7, 2007 I have been using Neat Image Pro for a couple of years. I find with the M8, that (1) either I am not using it hard enuf, or (2) at lower iso's I don't need the noise reduction. I have not tried saving settings in this software. I guess they would be useful for a bunch of pix with the same location and lighting, right?
jscottyk Posted February 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 8, 2007 useful for a bunch of pix with the same location and lighting, right? That's a good question. One that I've been thinking about this evening as I plan the work for tomorrow. It's my understanding from the documentation and what I've read at the NeatImage forums that the variables to account for with custom NeatImage profiles are ISO and raw developer. Unlike profiling for color management, the light source doesn't change the noise signature. So until I learn otherwise I'm only going to build profiles for combinations of ISO (2500, 1250, and 640) and raw developer. I'll start with RAW Developer, then C1, and finally ACR. rvaubel Posted February 8, 2007 Share #7 Posted February 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Neat Image does a really good job with the M8 files. Be sure and turn of any other default noise processing that may occur in CS or Capture one. It works wonders on the M8s DNGs. Rex
jscottyk Posted February 8, 2007 Share #8 Posted February 8, 2007 Unlike profiling for color management, the light source doesn't change the noise signature. Found this at NeatImage's website. It seems the light source does have an impact on the noise, but only slightly so.
