robsteve Posted January 29, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) A used 50mm Summicron just arrived at my door today. I gave the new lens a little test shooting my son with one of his toys. My focus was hit and miss at this range because he kept moving. Shot at 400iso at f2.4 on the DMR. Â I have always liked how the 50mm Summicron performs wide open or half a stop down. Â Â Â Â The 50mm Summicron is pretty sharp too as shown by the crop from the picture above. robsteve Posted January 29, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted January 29, 2007 Here is another one from just a few minutes ago. Same son, but outside on the ice while his brother, just home from school is in the background getting his skates on. This was AWB, 400iso and the 50mm Summicron at f2.8. stunsworth Posted January 29, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 29, 2007 Excellent Robert, I have a 3-cam 50mm Summicron that I bought of eBay for just over $200. Best bargain I've ever had.
robsteve Posted January 29, 2007 Author Share #7 Â Posted January 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Excellent Robert, I have a 3-cam 50mm Summicron that I bought of eBay for just over $200. Best bargain I've ever had. Â The new Summilux is probably a better lens at f2, but I sold my Summilux a few months ago. Last week I started realizing I didn't have any fast normal lenses for the DMR other than an old 35mm Summicron. I was rationalizing that I would use the M for fast lenses, but somtimes I might just want to use the DMR. Â BTW, Guy Mancuso has a 50mm Summicron ROM like mine on Ebay right now for a good price. It is item 120080072817.
robsteve Posted January 29, 2007 Author Share #8  Posted January 29, 2007 I wish my focus was this hit and miss. Fantastic.   I don't post the out of focus ones I was having a bit of trouble outside with the cold and my thick gloves. I had a hard time getting the focus where I wanted it because of the loss of feel from the thick ski gloves. When I shoot sports in the cold, I will cut a hole in the thumb of the glove so my bare thumb can get on the focus tube of the 400mm, just so I can have that feel.
