Guest Olof Posted January 29, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think that 50 and 75mm are very close and the new Lux 50mm ASPH has a outstanding performance (even better as the Cron 50mm), so is there any reason the get the Lux 75 ASPH ? tom0511 Posted January 29, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 29, 2007 yes, the 75 is 75 and not 50, giving a different fov

wattsy Posted January 29, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 29, 2007 I think it depends upon how you use the M system. At one time I had all the focal lengths covered between 24 and 90. Nowadays I favour as small a choice as possible. Therefore, to me 50 and 75 are too close to have both in the bag. At the moment I have the 50 ASPH but this is largely because my default choice with the M7 had long settled on 35, 50 and 90. Now that I have the M8, I am seriously considering dropping the 50 in favour of the 75 (90 is too long for my taste on the M8 and the 50 focal length seems a wee bit 'short' as my long lens). tom0511 Posted January 29, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 29, 2007 I didnt want to be smart a,,,, I just think both lenses should be exceptionla performers and therefore fov is the deciding criteria
ptomsu Posted January 29, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Folks - really, you cannot compare thes two, they both are more than outstanding and should be used in their specific areas they were designed for! lct Posted January 29, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 29, 2007 I think that 50 and 75mm are very close and the new Lux 50mm ASPH has a outstanding performance (even better as the Cron 50mm), so is there any reason the get the Lux 75 ASPH ? You mean the 75/2 (Summicron) i guess. If so, it has the same fingerprint as the 50/1.4 asph roughly. The main reason to choose one or the other is the speed and the FoV of course but also the camera one intend to use with. On the R-D1, the 50/1.4 has a 75mm FoV so it's a keeper that one can use 50/50 with a 28mm lens for instance. On the M8, the 50/1.4 (as other 50mm lenses) has a 66.5mm FoV so it may appear too long for a normal lens and too short for a tele. At least it's been my feeling when i tried my 50mm lenses on the M8 but beware, i'm not an M8 owner so take what i say with a pinch of salt.
