Lightroom, RAW and M8: opinions?

I have used both Aperture and Lightroom for some months each. I slightly prefer Aperture, except for two things: I always got better results with Lightroom (with a Canon 5D), and Lightroom is leaner and faster, and at the time was more open. Aperture has caught up somewhat in several of these aspects, but it isn't there yet. I think it is worth watching it.

I really enjoy Lightroom, but it simply sucks with the M8, for white balance and without the 486 filters. I often get indoor shots with such awful magenta casts on clothes and skin that I can't correct them at all. With C1LE, which I otherwise really don't like much, I can get much better results.

I think the field isn't ready for making such a choice. Aperture is too slow and needs M8 support, Lightroom needs some serious tuning, and C1 has an awful workflow compared to the other two. If one of these aspects isn't as important to you, your choice is easier.

I agree with this experience. I have used Lightroom since the first Beta . With the 5D it was great in all circumstances. Aquired a d-lux 2 and it required some adjustments ..then the R9/DMR ...more adjustments to WB but still great. Then the M8 with 6bit and IR filters. Even with manual WB(expo disc) and a whibal shot , its just a struggle. I asked this same question on luminous landscape ..MR indicated he uses lightroom for 95% of his images including the M8.

I'm thinking of using Raw Converter for converting raw images, but am wondering if it will be very good for organizing files.

Would Lightroom be a good choice for editing, organizing, archiving, etc? Would it work OK with Raw Converter, and maybe infuture work well converting M8 images?

I have a lot of poorly organized scanned, raw, and processed images that I need to get a handle on. In the past everyone recommended iViewMedia Pro, but that doesn't seem to be a current option.

I wish I could warm up to C1, but I find it very confusing. I delete images, and have lots of sidecar files wondering around that I'm afriad to delete because I don't know what they go to, and etc.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Mitchell
