Guess members are pretty tired of magenta pictures by now, but I couldn't resist posting this "collection of blacks" taken on an M8 I have on trial for a week (a very early one, but it had the fix and is running 1.09). The small camera bag and the strap hanging from it are in real life as black as the other items. It was taken in filtered window light with Daylight WB (virtually the same as manual WB in this case). The image, captured in DNG, is not manipulated in any way except for size and make the jpg. I tried Jamie's excellent profiles, but they met their match this time!

 

On another matter, and with reference to a recent thread on the subject, this particular camera's switch has excellent resistance to being accidentally knocked into another position - very comparable to the on/off switches on my M6 ttl and M7.

I have no idea how to start repairing something like this... Fortunately, I only needed B&W and got my 39mm IR cut filter the day after. (CV 28/3.5)

Well, I guess it is old news but that's a reflection of how long we're having to wait for a filter and firmware solution from Leica. 3 months in now, and it's all promises, promises. Makes me wonder what the chances are of any filters and V1.10 in February.

Don't wait for Leica's filters. Get the 486 from whatever source you can. This is what I did actually, to convince myself M8 can deliver the 'best' 35mm digital images (it is supposed to be), to convince myself it worth every penny I invested. Though the DNGs are great, I admit I begin to miss the gorgeous and true to life JPEGs straight from my D2 and Fuji S3.

The M8 does not by far produce the best 35mm digital pictures. But I still whant one:D

The B+W 486 cut filters solve the magenta problem. (Perhaps Heliopan and others too but I could only find Schneider B+W available within my reach earlier this month.)

 

Naturally I registered my two largest (most expensive) filter sizes with Leica but I also went to the marketplace and bought the two smaller sizes I also needed. Once installed, these cut filters will remain in place.

 

I'm enjoying the thought of letting the computers in the camera and the post-processor make the color balance adjustments without my need to constantly juggle a host of color bablancing filters at exposure time like I used to in my fast-receding epoch of color film.

 

I think we'll see firmware version 1.10 before we see any branded Leica cut filters flying into our mail boxes. (Hopefully both by the end of Feb.)

Jan--did you shoot this in RAW or JPEG? Just curious; if you shot this in RAW I'd love the DNG to work with for a profile test (it's got all kinds of tones in it!)
