New Firmware for M8 and M9???

We're speculating on the function of a non-existent button.

I'm just saying, Leica likes to use the "SET" button as confirmation when the scrollwheel is involved in changing a shooting parameter.

On the M8, only the Playback and Info buttons--which simply return information--don't require using the SET button.

They could program it any way they want, but for consistency, they would likely use the SET button.

Just for the record, the way the M9 ISO setting works is:

1. Press and HOLD the ISO button (unless held in, the ISOs are not accessable and the screen turns off in 1-2 seconds by itself.)

2. Scroll - or navigation arrows - to preferred ISO

2.5 release ISO button (screen turns off automatically in 1-2 seconds, or immediately if the shutter button is pressed).

The "set" button plays no role. I assume that if Leica can implement this in an M8 FW change by remapping the "Protect" button, they'd use the M9 model. It's all just code.

I just checked the blog and it says that my "comment is awaiting moderation". I posted a question about this and this too is "awaiting moderation". I think the blog software just screwed me out of the opportunity to test the new firmware despite my having submitted the online request almost minutes after it was first posted.

Andy--have the Anointed Ones been notified?

Seems as if that might be worth a thread on the forum. Something like, "beta-testers list has been finalized."

I'm sure no one selected can say s/he was selected, so a note to the effect that the test is under way could be helpful.

It might also be interesting to know how many forum members were chosen...

Agreed; it is sad that communication is so sparse to say the least... - Guess next time, it's not worth the effort.

Best,

Michael

Michael--

Maybe it's just that you and I aren't Twitterers. :(

From these last couple posts, it looks as if Leica posted the info publicly, but not in a place where we would see it. Sigh.

I beg pardon - my fault!

The last days I was involved in several projects including but not only the firmware testing.

Tomorrow or Thursday I'll send out more information to all applicants.

Status today is:

- We had almost 1000 applications

- In order to be able to handle the feedback we've chosen 80 members for M9 and M8 tests

- The chosen M9 testers (about 50) were asked to sign an license agreement

- Those who signed and sent back the agreement started testing Thursday

The M8 test will start later (in some weeks), the additional testers will be informed in time.

How did we choose the testers?

Our criteria were:

- Has camera - don't laugh, lots of applicants without M8 or M9 ;)

- Has lenses, especially rare ones

- Quantity and quality of contributions to the forum

Best regards from Bonn

Andreas

That will be in order to implement the Protect/ISO button changes then, (85% of Poll Voters can't be wrong) ???
