I am pretty sure they can reprogramme "protect" to "destroy shutter":D

That would at least be a proof of concept, wouldn't it, Stephen? :)

Thanks, Chris and Michael, for reassuring me that my Protect button might become useful one day.

A Leica insider just told me that the update will enable 35mm film to be loaded as well as digital pictures.

Cool, an Analogue to Digital Converter so to speak?

A factory insider told me they were about to release a new range of inexpensive lenses that take only black-and-white images (the savings come from not having to process colour). This is great since the UV-cut filter obviously will not be necessary. Announcement due Friday.

are u sure that it will be happens on April 1st ? :) I hope so

Oh yes! I have a friend who is way up in Leica's administration.

Really, he just told me. Further, he said that implementing full frame

was no problem at all. The updated firmware just addresses the extra

photosites that already exist around the perimeter of the M8's sensor.

As with the improved high ISO performance that's come with all previous

firmware updates, the extra photosites are there, you just have to look

very, very carefully to see them.

Best regards to all

Sam

Are these lenses going to work on my M8 with current firmware or

will I get colour fringing untill there is a firmware update for them?

Careful analysis of the product announcement appears to indicate that you will get gray fringes.

How can they implement Firmware to update M8 to fullframe????? Because the size of sensor is not fullframe.

its easy really

Leica have been working for years to eliminate the time dilation effect

As they made this breakthrough last year, its just a matter of folding space.

Its difficult however to get even the required small amount of the plutonium-248 passed by the electrical appliance approval board in the UK and Europe.

However I understand a decision soon might be positive due to simulatenous donations to the Obama and Merkel re-election fund.

It's all relative.

Relative to a Canon S90, the sensor is Full-Frame.

If 35mm Film had infact been 28mm (or thereabouts) the M8 would be Full-Frame.

That's no joke sir, that's my Leica.

Just wait for the announcement tomorrow,

full frame (without radiation hazard) and, as usual,

better high ISO performance.

Trust me, I own an M8

Hopefully, all has a good Friday with ... the M8 Firmware!!! :)

Dont know about full frame but can it please have GPRS !!!

Oh yes also touch screen facility with an option to add special effects like pink hearts the moment you review the photo on your LCD.

That would be so cool
