ho_co Posted March 29, 2011 Share #41 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I am pretty sure they can reprogramme "protect" to "destroy shutter":D That would at least be a proof of concept, wouldn't it, Stephen? Thanks, Chris and Michael, for reassuring me that my Protect button might become useful one day. Edited March 29, 2011 by ho_co
Advertisement Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Hi ho_co, Take a look here New Firmware for M8 and M9???. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chris_livsey Posted March 30, 2011 Share #42 Posted March 30, 2011 Perhaps Leica could produce a self-adhesive label to stick over the button's name ... Pete. I think you would find that would be a paid for update I did get a FOC red dot to replace one that fell off a lens though.
colonel Posted March 30, 2011 Share #43 Posted March 30, 2011 A Leica insider just told me that the update will enable 35mm film to be loaded as well as digital pictures. The version number will be 2.006prius of course released at 12am 1st April

Philinflash Posted March 30, 2011 Share #45 Posted March 30, 2011 A factory insider told me they were about to release a new range of inexpensive lenses that take only black-and-white images (the savings come from not having to process colour). This is great since the UV-cut filter obviously will not be necessary. Announcement due Friday.
squarenegs Posted March 30, 2011 Share #46 Posted March 30, 2011 are u sure that it will be happens on April 1st ? I hope so Oh yes! I have a friend who is way up in Leica's administration. Really, he just told me. Further, he said that implementing full frame was no problem at all. The updated firmware just addresses the extra photosites that already exist around the perimeter of the M8's sensor. As with the improved high ISO performance that's come with all previous firmware updates, the extra photosites are there, you just have to look very, very carefully to see them. Best regards to all Sam

Are these lenses going to work on my M8 with current firmware or will I get colour fringing untill there is a firmware update for them? pop Posted March 31, 2011 Share #48 Posted March 31, 2011 Are these lenses going to work on my M8 with current firmware or will I get colour fringing untill there is a firmware update for them? Careful analysis of the product announcement appears to indicate that you will get gray fringes.

colonel Posted March 31, 2011 Share #51 Posted March 31, 2011 How can they implement Firmware to update M8 to fullframe????? Because the size of sensor is not fullframe. its easy really Leica have been working for years to eliminate the time dilation effect As they made this breakthrough last year, its just a matter of folding space. Its difficult however to get even the required small amount of the plutonium-248 passed by the electrical appliance approval board in the UK and Europe. However I understand a decision soon might be positive due to simulatenous donations to the Obama and Merkel re-election fund.
Carl E Posted March 31, 2011 Share #52 Posted March 31, 2011 It was a joke Jokes aside, has anyone picked up what the M8 firmware update is REALLY all about?

Guest Ming Rider Posted March 31, 2011 Share #54 Posted March 31, 2011 How can they implement Firmware to update M8 to fullframe????? Because the size of sensor is not fullframe. It's all relative. Relative to a Canon S90, the sensor is Full-Frame. If 35mm Film had infact been 28mm (or thereabouts) the M8 would be Full-Frame.
squarenegs Posted March 31, 2011 Share #55 Posted March 31, 2011 It was a joke That's no joke sir, that's my Leica. Just wait for the announcement tomorrow, full frame (without radiation hazard) and, as usual, better high ISO performance. Trust me, I own an M8 Sam
