Advertisement Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Hi jmr, Take a look here Across the Dee. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
zanydave Posted January 28, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2007 Like the composition & the sky is great. You must be tired after carrying that heavy camera around all day Dave
Photoskeptic Posted January 28, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 28, 2007 John, I really like this image. My eye was wandering all over the shot. Just for grins I cropped the sky out by scrolling down. This changes the perspective for the better IMO. And I am loath to crop out nice skies! But for my own enjoyment I like the focus of the image more on the street and bridge detail. Thanks for sharing.
gverdon Posted January 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2007 John, I like this one. Excellent post-process for an appealing result. Tones are beautiful and the light is cleverly rendered. Maybe a slight crop off (about 1 cm) in the upper part to re-balance... but nothing important. Gérald
azzo Posted January 28, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 28, 2007 I did the same thing as John above did by scrolling this image. The reason i did this is, what seems to be a jet trail. The light and beautiful lush tones the bottom half of this image has are incredibly nice. Extremely well seen and captured John. Azzo
jmr Posted January 28, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted January 28, 2007 Guys, I don't disagree - a tighter crop creates a heavier and more focused shot.
stuny Posted January 29, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) John - Gorgeous full tones with a lot of darkness, much as Rolo frequently achieves. Depth, details and composition are all first rate, too.
jmr Posted January 29, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted January 29, 2007 Stuart, I'm happy that you think a little of his customary magic may have rubbed-off on me - at least on this isolated occasion.

Rolo Posted January 30, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 30, 2007 Stuart, I'm happy that you think a little of his customary magic may have rubbed-off on me - at least on this isolated occasion. I've noticed quite a big and postive change in your output that wasn't in the early Tintwistle Tintypes. Well done. It's all that time you have on your hands and nothing but sheep around. jmr Posted January 31, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted January 31, 2007 Pete, lucky? I think not - I held the camera at arm's length, squinted at the tiny, dim smudge of a screen and fired off 50 frames in burst-mode; just like any real modern photographer would have done. elansprint72 Posted January 31, 2007 Share #15 Posted January 31, 2007 John, I'm seriously considering getting one of those just to keep in my pocket; the sort of things you are producing make me wonder if it's worth carting all the bulk of D2 etc up the mountains. Have you found anything it is not particularly good at? Cheers, Pete.
Rolo Posted January 31, 2007 Share #16 Posted January 31, 2007 John,Have you found anything it is not particularly good at? Cheers, Pete. " I held the camera at arm's length" said JM. andybarton Posted January 31, 2007 Share #17 Posted January 31, 2007 I have taken photographs here a dozen times, but none as good as this one. Excellent.
jmr Posted January 31, 2007 Author Share #18 Posted January 31, 2007 Pete, I have a Digilux 2 as well, so perhaps it would help to compare the C-Lux with that - I prefer the b&w JPEGs from the C-Lux, they seem denser to me; The colour from the C-Lux is a little bluer and not quite as rich as from the D2, although it can obviously be altered in PS; Ths C-Lux has a touch more barrel distortion at 28, but it's only a small amount - I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to it; The C-lux is nice and sharp at 28 but rather softer at the telephoto end - I consider the challenge of matching the subject to the lens characteristics to be part of the fun; The display, aka ersatz viewfinder, on the C-Lux is very clear and bright, even in full sun; The controls are close to perfection. For example, EV compensation is one button press away, not in a menu. If you set the camera to b&w, as I do, you can switch back to colour for the occasional shot with one click of the mode dial, again no menus; Talking of mountains, the camera can be used through gloves, even though it's tiny. Overall, there's nothing to dislike really and loads to enjoy about the C-Lux. Since I got it I've hardly used the D2 - but as you know, I hate carrying cameras around!
