M8 in Las Vegas?

It doesn't work that way in US airports either, except in Duty Free shops. But here's the good news: it is US states, not the federal government, that apply sales tax, and they are seldom more than half what the standard EU VAT tax is. Good luck finding an M8 in Las Vegas; if you can't find a dealer there, perhaps a US dealer from other cities can arrange to deliver one to you. And you will find the Euro makes any US purchase an absolute bargain these days.

Thanks, yeah I've noticed before that vat is different from state to state.

I'm going to travel a bit while there, if I'm going, bepends on if I can find the time I'm primarily going for the restaurant fair in Vegas, San Fransisco is another stop I think. Maybe someone will sell me their "old used one nothing worth anymore" :p

The M8 is 4200euro in Finland, but my dealer is persistent that I won't get my hands on one before the summer! My digital camera as of now is an 5D.

I started with Leica in September, I have a M6 with a Lux 35mm ASPH, I absolutely love it, and would love to have the M8. The M-Leica is the first camera that is giving me more and more pleasure the more I use it. I believe the 5D might be better as far as the sensor is concerned, but I spend way too much time on this digital Leica forum! :D

Nevada sales tax is currently 6.5%.

I am not sure if it is applied to food however.

If you can prove M8 (chocolate dipped) is edible, you might save some money.

In CA tax may be higher, check it on web.In some states it also varies a bit from county to county.

Does anybody know how much is an import duty from Germany?

Hi,

I ordered some CV lenses from Stephen Gandy in LA and asked him to ship to Las Vegas - no sales tax as far as I remember :-)

Sending an M8 from Germany to Finland is easy, as within the EU. I can help bayerische with a contact if he wants.

Best regards

Karl-Heinz

Hello Karl,

Thanks, but one of my best friends lives in Cologne, so better give him some work if I where to order one from Germany:). But thank you for offering your help. I haven't made up my mind about the Canon lenses yet.

Hi Andreas,

no worry with the CANON lenses. They have a warm and comfortable place here :-)

BTW, I was hunting for some camera stuff in Vegas this January, but did not find anything. Hope you have a good time in Vegas. For me it was only work. And if you want the best breakfast in town, go to the Peppermill next to Circus Circus/Reviera.

Best regards

Try Casey's Cameras at 1550 E. Tropicana Ave--702-736-0890. When last in the shop he was expecting 2 M8's. If you walk out the door with the camera you will pay 6.5% sales tax. And take your chances when you carry it through Finnish customs. If you have it shipped to Finland, you will avoid the sales tax but expect the horrors you are aware of when shipping high value items to europe.

I'd rather pay 6,5% sales tax, than 22% vat in Finland if shipped + a customs charge...

I've been to Vegas 3 times before, but never looked for camera shops. (I guess there's plenty to do besides shopping :) )

What price does the M8 currently have in the US?
