andit Posted January 28, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, While I'm still patiently waiting for my M8 to arrive, by the time it actually gets to SA it'll probably be an M9, I downloaded the instruction manual. In the manual it states quite clearly that the 50mm Summicron f2.0 with close focusing can not be used with the M8. Does this refer to the lens that is being currently manufactured, or does this refer to a past/"historical" lens? I ordered a 50mm cron with the M8, if it can not be used then I'll have to change my order. Your help and ideas would be greatly welcomed Andreas

Peter41951 Posted January 28, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2007 Andreas You'll be fine with the current 50mm.
carstenw Posted January 28, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 28, 2007 The manual refers to a historical model. I think this may be the same lens also referred to as the dual-range Summicron. Perhaps someone can confirm this.
DaveEP Posted January 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2007 My 50/Cron dates from around 1984, and it works fine

Perhaps someone can confirm this. Yes Carsten, they are referring to the Dual-Range Summicron, produced from 1956 to 1968 in ca. 56000 pieces, code name SOMNI. carstenw Posted January 28, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2007 It seems to be well-liked: Classic Camera Lenses ?` Leica Summicron 50mm f2 (ƒ‰ƒCƒJ ƒYƒ~ƒNƒ?ƒ“50mm f2) Why can it not be used with the M8? The glasses?
lct Posted January 28, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes it's the Summicron 'dual range' (DR) or 'close focusing'. Looks like it touches something when focussed at infinity.
