Solar B Posted March 16, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 16, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently picked up a D-lux 4 with the Leica 24mm finder ... now whilst i "do" like the camera , im not sure yet how useful the finder is with it , naturally because the camera lens is not of a fixed FL like the finder , the EVFs work with the zoom on the Lux5 but then not nearly as clear and bright ... so. Im wondering what others think of their "optical" finders on D-Luxs ? And if an EVF will work on the D-lux 4 ? ... my guess is no. Brian
Advertisement Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Hi Solar B, Take a look here D-Lux 4 Optical Finder . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wmyowell Posted March 16, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 16, 2011 I found the optical viewfinder on the D-Lux4 of some use, but I agree with you that because it doesn't zoom or take into account the different formats it is far from perfect. I did feel that using the 16x9 format, which I usually shoot, I could ignore the frame lines and use the limit of what I could see in the viewfinder as pretty close to what I was photographing (that is from side to side). However, this was one of the reasons I acquired a D-Lux5 with the EVF. You are correct that it will not work on the D-Lux4. There is a jack for the electronics that the 4 does not have. bill Posted March 16, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 16, 2011 Because I see the world in 50mm terms, I use a SBOOI on mine and keep it at the "60mm" setting. It's an almost exact match for the 3:2 setting. Regards, Bill
ho_co Posted March 16, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 16, 2011 Brian, I use the 24mm finder in situations where I've turned off the LCD to avoid bothering others.
Solar B Posted March 17, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted March 17, 2011 Thanks People I think i will hold onto the finder for now , as i can see it being useful in certain situations ... plus its just a great wee piece of kit ... if only EVFs were as clear n bright Brian
wbarker Posted March 19, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 19, 2011 I have used mine in snow scenes where the LCD screen simply was useless. Otherwise, I don't often use it.
