I recently picked up a D-lux 4 with the Leica 24mm finder ... now whilst i "do" like the camera , im not sure yet how useful the finder is with it , naturally because the camera lens is not of a fixed FL like the finder , the EVFs work with the zoom on the Lux5 but then not nearly as clear and bright ... so.

Im wondering what others think of their "optical" finders on D-Luxs ?

And if an EVF will work on the D-lux 4 ? ... my guess is no.

I found the optical viewfinder on the D-Lux4 of some use, but I agree with you that because it doesn't zoom or take into account the different formats it is far from perfect. I did feel that using the 16x9 format, which I usually shoot, I could ignore the frame lines and use the limit of what I could see in the viewfinder as pretty close to what I was photographing (that is from side to side).

However, this was one of the reasons I acquired a D-Lux5 with the EVF. You are correct that it will not work on the D-Lux4. There is a jack for the electronics that the 4 does not have.

Because I see the world in 50mm terms, I use a SBOOI on mine and keep it at the "60mm" setting. It's an almost exact match for the 3:2 setting.

Thanks People :)

I think i will hold onto the finder for now , as i can see it being useful in certain situations ... plus its just a great wee piece of kit ... if only EVFs were as clear n bright
