m8 in oman

i just came back from a one-week trip to oman (wonderful country, most friendly people). i had originally planned to bring my H1 with P45 or Aptus 75, but then i decided on taking the m8. my wife brought the APLA SWA 12 but i used the m8 almost exclusively, except for a half day shoot with the D200.

all in all the m8 performed very well, except well known issues with the white balance. another issue was the (retro-designed) bottom plate. naturally, i had to change the sd card during a shooting in the sand dunes and the bottom plate fell out of my fingers into the sand....i cleaned it for 20 minutes or so to get rid of the fine sand on it...retro without sense except maybe to keep hardcore leicaists happy...

i just put some of my oman pics online:

of course, comments are highly welcome.

all in all i have the (unscientific) feeling that the D200 with the very best nikon lenses (85mm f1.4, 200mm f 2) can just barely level with the m8+leica glass. the fun factor of the m8 is clearly superior.

Thank you for sharing. The people all look quite happy and are tolerant of photographers. Nice.

in fact, there is no problem photographing omani men. i had a hard time photographing women though. it was easier for my wife, sometimes they even posed for her (totally veiled....), but once even she was chased away rather brutally.
