sps Posted January 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Learning this digital workflow is breaking me. Over 1000 pictures so far, and so few keepers (I do MUCH better with my M7-I don't know why). After some wine, with the bottle empty, one glass empty and the other almost there, I realized I might have a picture you guys would enjoy. Sorry if too amateurish. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2007 This is NOT a overnight success to learn digital. This stuff just takes some time to learn and master. I spent a lot of years on digital and i am still learning to master it. Don't be hard on yourself just keep plugging away. Okay now pour me a glass. jrisc Posted January 27, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 27, 2007 Guy, the rim light looks better on my monitor.... added a little blur to fill out frame left of glass.
jrisc Posted January 27, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 27, 2007 Guy check out the reflection in the glass and the label.... I think it is SPS taking the picture... I also layered it into the label on the bottle.

LJL Posted January 27, 2007 Share #12 Posted January 27, 2007 Melvin, Interesting look. On your last version, what is with the light streak/smear on the left side coming from the glass and the highlight at the top of the stem? It is not in your other shots, that I can see. sps Posted January 27, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted January 27, 2007 I'm curious what you did to get the "rose" color out of it. Is it a specific command or slider?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 27, 2007 Share #14 Posted January 27, 2007 It was white balanced to the white label and the rose would come right out. You were not WB to begin with.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 27, 2007 Share #15 Posted January 27, 2007 Melvin,Interesting look. On your last version, what is with the light streak/smear on the left side coming from the glass and the highlight at the top of the stem? It is not in your other shots, that I can see. LJ I noticed that also but was not sure if it was my early morning eyes and/or sleeping disorder. LOL
sps Posted January 27, 2007 Author Share #16 Posted January 27, 2007 The horizontal streak seems to be about the same place as the white door muntin. The glow on the stem at the base of the bowl is caused by the light from above going through the wine. I've been experimenting with the adjustments. I think this one is better. It might be a little oversharpened. Comments? I'm curious about the sharpening. Amazingly sharp lens that has produced fantastic results for me in film, combined with a great sensor. I would think the pics would be sharp already! I have been reading about the need for it b/c of the Bayer filter, but it still doesn't seem right. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 27, 2007 Share #17 Posted January 27, 2007 I like it better than the first one you posted , maybe go in and darken all four corners down some to draw your eye in
roubaix Posted January 27, 2007 Share #18 Posted January 27, 2007 To the experts reading this thread.... Along these lines, I am a beginner as well. Outside of years of trial and error (about which I have no problem) are there perhaps specific courses that could jump start one on the digital workflow path? Thanks. LJL Posted January 27, 2007 Share #19 Posted January 27, 2007 Savvas, My comment about the streak to the left of the glass, seeming to come from the glowing part of the top of the stem was with respect to the version posted by Melvin in Permlink#8 above in this thread. Has the characteristic "streaking" look of a first gen M8 that has not been repaired yet. The apparent streaks you decribe from the door muntin are not the same thing, Those looke more like oversharpened out of focus transitions to my eyes. Hard to tell, and I do not want to make a criticism that is not accurate on this. The most recent version you posted looks good, but I think it is a bit oversharpened for the level of contrast. Just my opinion. Colors are looking better, and I do like the fall-off of focus away from the bottle and glass on the left. Lighting still seems a bit harsh for this type of still life shot. I would have gone with more side lighting than overhead, but that may not have been an option for you here. LJ
