Advertisement Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Hi aross, Take a look here Digilux 2 tele adapter?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 26, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 26, 2007 I don't think so. It would have to be some kind of screw-in thing, but the Digilux2 has a highly unusual 69 mm filter thread, which is not offered by any of the generic adapter makers. jank Posted January 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2007 It is the large front element of Digilux2 that poses the design constraints. The tele adapter would be quite bulky and heavy. The largest one for reasonable price ($300) I know of, and used, is a Sony made having 58mm thread and almost 100 mm Dia front element. Even such large lens would cause vignetting on Digilux2, I guess. Jan

johnjs Posted January 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 27, 2007 I've looked into this before and decided the effort, for myself, wasn't going to be worth it. Of course, it would depend on your specific purpose, and what type of scope you were going to mount the Digilux 2 with. For a standard spotting scope, it's probably best to look at a fixed-lens digital camera with a smaller aperture lens. Apparently the D1 worked well in this regard. The D2's large lens diameter doesn't seem to be well suited to afocal eyepiece projection, mainly due to the vignetting issue and the difficulty of coupling. If you would wish to attempt this, you'll need to start with the Lensmate 69-58mm step-down ring, threaded onto the Leica's filter thread. From there, my theory was to use one of Scopetronix's Digi-T eyepiece projection adapters with the 58mm thread adapter and a 1.25" eyepiece holder. The device allows for a very close placement of the front element of the camera lens to the eyepiece to minimize vignetting. Ultimately, I decided I didn't want to risk the coatings on the lens, or subject the somewhat delicate D2 camera body to tele-work. There may never be another lens again like the Vario-Summicron ASPH found on the D2, and it is still, even at 5MP, a very capable camera with a unique signature. I've decided to stick with prime-focus and eyepiece-projection with the SLRs. Best, John
spylaw4 Posted January 27, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 27, 2007 I posted a question re this some time ago, see: http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/11808-d2-wide-tele-adapters.html There was also a previous thread which i could not locate, maybe it's on the old forum.
