M8 tight hotshoe -- one solution for Metz flash

I have been terrified to put my Metz flash in the hotshoe of my new M8 because the first time I mounted the flash on the M8 I had to wrestle it out and I was worried about breaking the 3502 adapter.

I noticed that the HSHS adapter didn't fit so tightly, so I was using that in between for a while, with the Metz set to auto.

However, I wanted to start using the TTL feature on the Metz (GnC, guide number control, actually). I put the flash in the shoe, and sure enuf, I couldn't get it out. But, I happened to reverse the wheel that tightens the flash in the shoe -- all the way -- and I noticed it deforms the mounting bracket slightly, just enough to loosen the mount in the shoe so it can be removed.

Since the same 3502 adapter is used with the 3008A off-camera extension cord, I can use that as well without fear.

Power to the photographers!

LOL get the file out Bill.

I filed down the plastic on the Metz both on the sides and the bottom just to make it a little smaller and it goes on easily now.

Bill:

There is a locking pin on the Metz shoe that mates to the M8 hotshoe which doesn't retract until the locking wheel is all the way up. This could be your problem with getting the flash off the M8. The SF20 and SF24 also have this locking pin.

Robert, thanks for the info about the locking pin.

I find it interesting that there is so much NOT documented with Metz (or did I miss somehting in the manual). No\ice flash, tho.

Actuallyl, I don't think my mother had a brother .. Brit expressions are terrific.
