spylaw4 Posted January 26, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just before Christmas I visited Easter Island. It's a small island, a World Heritage Site, some 2000 miles into the Pacific and a 5 hour flight from Santiago, Chile. not too much is actually known about the stone statues (Moai) but they were made roughly between 900 and 1500 AD. It is thought that they were commissioned by the clan chiefs. More than 1000 complete, broken, or partly carved, exist. This moai is one of the many partly buried at Rano Raraku - the quarry where they were carved
Advertisement Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Hi spylaw4, Take a look here Moai 1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
semrich Posted January 26, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 26, 2007 A nice picture, it would be interesting to see it in B&W. I'll bet was a great experience to see them in real time up close.
stuny Posted January 26, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 26, 2007 Brian - Excellent framing colors, light and details. To see one man's vision of what happened there rent the film Rapa Nui.

spylaw4 Posted January 27, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted January 27, 2007 Thanks for the comments and I'll see if I can get hold of that film. It was indeed a very worthwhile experience and I am glad I made the effort - I recommend it and I would even go back! I hope I won't bore everyone - but there are a few more shots to come over the next while. For you Richard here it is in B&W, a simple conversion in Lightroom with a touch more contrast which I feel the B&W needs.
