Terry Kelly Posted February 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just got the latest prints from my local lab, and the first few frames have strange mould-like spots on them. The spots are not in the same place on the affected prints, negatives, or JPEG files, so I am assuming that they were on the unexposed film, since their lab has an in-house Noritsu device. The camera is relatively new (only 50 or so rolls through so far) so I am discounting this, and these shots were all taken with the same lens, so I don't think it is grime. Has anyone any idea what this could be? I have (attempted to) attach some examples below: The first frame shows the mould spot like issue, the second taken one day later also shows the same issues but the 'spots' are in different places, the third frame, taken after the second, seems to be clean. Are the spots in the same place on the SAME neg and print? I.E. do negative 1 and print 1 show identical patterns? If so, I would suspect (if not actually mold) that a spatter of liquid chemical or dried chemical dust got onto the film, perhaps via the very first rollers of the developing machine. And that once your first few inches of film had "cleaned" the rollers, the rest of the roll was unaffected. Dark blue-green spots in prints or jpegs would correspond to light, un(der)developed spots on the film negatives, as though fixer dust or liquid had contaminated the development of the film in those spots. Once the film was marked, any reproduction of the film image (via print or scan) would reproduce the marks as well. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's definately a processing issue, either they stuffed up the development (possibly splashed the film with chemicals at some point) or it's in the scanning. Out of interest what sort of resolution scans do you get from your lab and what sort of £'s for develop, scan & 6x4's if you don't mind me asking.
