marknorton Posted January 27, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted January 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can see a reference to it in the filter supplement (document 94012) but I can't see a reference to it in my manuals - both the same document number (93153) - and one came with the camera initially and the second with another "second build". Â How's about telling us WHERE in the manual you are seeing this. Is this an English manual? Â Just checked the original PDF and it's not in there.... maybe you have a later manual? Advertisement Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Hi marknorton, Take a look here M8 Firmware 1.10. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 27, 2007 Share #22  Posted January 27, 2007 I have a profile for Jpeg users too; got posted first in fact, and I'll release another. There's no difficulty to using a profile with Jpeg, you just assign the profile in PS.   It might be better to ask what use an unreleased firmware is to non-owners of unreleased filters.  At least I offer this for free, today, which is more than rumors of an unreleased firmware and promises of presents to come for a camera which is already paid for. I had to pay 140 Euros to get a 486 from the Leica shop in Paris and spend hours with profiling software so far.  Edmund  140 Euros?? You've been ripped off! I paid an average of 50 Euro for each of my 486 filters.....

Of course I got ripped off, but that is really the french list price for these filters, this what Maison du Leica charges its clients, and this is probably what every Leica user will have to pay extra to use each of his lenses except if he goes to mail order.  Let's face it, Leica is now a luxury brand with luxury shops, and users will get charged for luxury. ALso, luxury items are usually not made to be used, they are made to be seen. I think a cheap Euro 140 pocket digital point and shoot will probably beat the M8 hands down by the time the bugs are ironed out next year. marknorton Posted January 27, 2007 Share #24  Posted January 27, 2007 I haven't seen any pricing on the "official" Leica filters but it may be the next kick in the teeth from Leica to its loyal customer base. Schneider must think all their Christmasses have come all at once. At we say in England, they have LC AG "over a barrel".
stunsworth Posted January 27, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted January 27, 2007 Leica is appallingly expensive in France. I bought my Noctilux when I was living there. I saved myself hundreds of Euros by buying it from the UK rather than France.

Michael Huppert wil send the filters by mail and they usually arrive within four days - and he charges normal prices....

carstenw Posted January 27, 2007 Share #28 Â Posted January 27, 2007 Foto Huppert is back-ordered like anyone else these days. I am waiting patiently for my E39 and E46 B+W 486s, ordered two weeks ago. He sends regular reports that another batch is being prepared at B+W. Â Jaap, where did you hear that? That really surprised me, to be honest.

scott kirkpatrick Posted January 27, 2007 Share #31 Â Posted January 27, 2007 Sean Reid was given some of Leica's filters to test. He describes then as Schneider/B&W 486's, including very similar labelling. Can you point us the source of the Hoya story? Â scott

glenerrolrd Posted January 28, 2007 Share #33 Â Posted January 28, 2007 Not sure i would go buy Hoya stock. There is some debate about who really is making them I heard this from one of the leica representatives in December. I asked about the capacity issue with the B&W filters..his response was that I shouldn t assume that Schneider would be the source. They might have gone to dual sourcing to insure enough capacity and to have something to negotiate with. Good for insuring adequate supply and competitive pricing...not so great for consistency between filters.
sps Posted January 28, 2007 Share #34 Â Posted January 28, 2007 Last week I ordered a bunch of filters, in many sizes from SHPotoDe. They were all in stock and arrived in one week. Â SH photo GmbH Â click on "IR filter for Leica M8". It appears they still have 46, 49, 55 & 60 in stock.

For the reason you mention I would imagine) Â Hi Jaap, Â As Scott mentioned, I have the "Leica" filters here and they're made by Schneider/B+W. You must have read about that already, right? Â Speaking to all, I wouldn't necessarily presume that the "Leica" filters will be more expensive. Â Cheers, Â Sean
neelin Posted January 31, 2007 Share #36 Â Posted January 31, 2007 I hate to say this, but everything in Europe is appallingly expense ;-) UK included ;;-) i'm on holidays for the last couple of weeks in Paris and am pleasantly surprised how cheap (less than north america), milk, bread, wine, bottled water, cheese, and fruits & veggies are. lots of clothing is cheaper, and it's a lot easier to find really high quality clothing in paris (but not cheap). eating out on the other hand is more expensive. based upon property values, i think our apartment rental is cheap. Â i'd have to agree on cameras though as being significantly more expensive. robert
barjohn Posted February 1, 2007 Share #37 Â Posted February 1, 2007 Tomorrow starts Feb 1 any idea when they will release 1.10 firmware? Beginning, middle or end of the month? Should we start a pool, winner takes all?
Woody Campbell Posted February 1, 2007 Share #38 Â Posted February 1, 2007 Tomorrow starts Feb 1 any idea when they will release 1.10 firmware? Beginning, middle or end of the month? Should we start a pool, winner takes all? Â I personally am hoping for February 28. Later is actually ok with me. Leica has undertaken a lot in this version and a lot is riding on it. I would prefer that they take the time to test, test and test some more, and get it right.
barjohn Posted February 1, 2007 Share #39 Â Posted February 1, 2007 I agree that well tested would be good. I can't say that I have experienced many of the problems discussed here and elsewhere with the exception of the white balance issue that is annoying and magenta (waiting for IR filters). The streaking/rainbow effect etc. i haven't seen first hand yet. There are a few enhancement I would like such as having the camera record an estimated f stop (calculated by using the top sensor data) allowing me to tell it what lens I have for non coded lens and recording it in the Exif data, etc.

I have a 4.8/280 Visoflex Telyt -E58 filter size- Is Leica offering that size of I.R. filters ?
