dannirr Posted January 26, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 26, 2007 The instruction manual that came with my M8's refer to v 1.10. It must be close to release if it is in the printed manual, wouldn't you think? Â Danni

It must be close to release if it is in the printed manual, wouldn't you think? Danni I don't have my instruction manual with me, and I got my M8 yesterday with a serial # starting with 31, but I don't recall seeing any reference to the newer frimware. Where in the printed manual did you see reference to the 1.10 firmware?

stunsworth Posted January 26, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Where in the printed manual did you see reference to the 1.10 firmware? Â Ed, I'll have to dig out the manual, but I do remember reading a reference to 1.10. Off the top of my head it may have been where it was discussing turning on the lens code recognition. marknorton Posted January 26, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 26, 2007 A giant inflatable red-herring! Â The designation given to the lens recognition sensor on the bayonet ring in the pictures of the camera is item 1.10, nothing to do with firmware versions. Â Following Steve's logic, I'm looking forward to the improved shutter release which, apparently, is coming in firmware version 1.20. They will quickly find out they forgot to improve the cable release action as well and that is coming in a mini-release called 1.20a....
stunsworth Posted January 26, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Jeez Mark, I did say it was off the top of my head :-) Â Anyhow, I found the rerference. It isn't in the main manual, it's in the supliment discussing how to get the free filters and reads "For wide angle lenses from 16-35mm we recommend using 6 bit coded lenses and firmware version 1.10 or above." Â Presumably the firmware uses a combination of the focal length and the fact that a filter is in use to remove the slight cyan cast that use of the filters on wide angle lenses can produce. sean_reid Posted January 26, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Firmware 1.10 is designed to, among other things, provide correction for cyan drift when coded lenses are used with 486 IR-cut filters. Â Cheers, Â Sean

eronald Posted January 26, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted January 26, 2007 And how good is that going to be for JPEG users? Â I have a profile for Jpeg users too; got posted first in fact, and I'll release another. There's no difficulty to using a profile with Jpeg, you just assign the profile in PS. Â Â It might be better to ask what use an unreleased firmware is to non-owners of unreleased filters. Â At least I offer this for free, today, which is more than rumors of an unreleased firmware and promises of presents to come for a camera which is already paid for. I had to pay 140 Euros to get a 486 from the Leica shop in Paris and spend hours with profiling software so far. Â Edmund
dannirr Posted January 26, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted January 26, 2007 The reference to v1.10 is in the main manual. When I get back to ATlanta on Sunday, I'll post the page, but it's there. Â Danni
Shootist Posted January 26, 2007 Share #19 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Danni I'll have a look through the manual when I get home and I''ll check the copyright date of the manual. Could be Leica has been planing these newer firmware since before the camera was released. Â Once you back in Atlanta drop me a email. I'd like to get together with other Leica users in the area.
