Which Leica R zoom lens for Canon 5D II?

I cannot argue with that because I have no experience with the Leica - zoom. What I meant was giving up speed, auto-focus, image stabilisation for image quality (is a personal decision). For me the only reason to go in Yak-mode! and carrying 2-3kg around my old neck is the type of fotography where I need those gimmicks .

Hello, first time poster here.

Really appreciate a couple of minutes of some of your time...

After reviews on here and around the traps, I'm looking to buy a 35-70 F4 (probably off ebay) for use on a 7D.

I have to shoot predominantly in bright daylight, so a high quailty but slower/cheaper suits me very well... However, as I'm doing video, I need to use ND filters so I can utilise preferred shutter speeds etc, so I'm concerned about some reports of problems using ND filters. Is there a best/easy workaround, adaptor/step up ring?? Different lens versions?

Also any advice on what I should be looking for exactly in a good second hand R lense would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all

Kind regards

Lliam

Hi,

Welcome to LUF.

The 35-70 Vario Elmar f4.0 is an excellent lens. This is a Leica-designed lens but manufactured by Kyocera. It has an aspherical element, even though this is not indicated on the lens.

I have used this lens with my R6.2, R8, DMR and now the Sony A850. It has many characteristics of the modern Leica aspherical designs, sharp, contrasty and great colour rendition. The only downside is that the front rotates, which makes using a polarizer a bit of a bother. Shouldn't be a problem using an ND filter. As far as I know there is only one version.

Here are some shots from this lens,
