wag Posted January 25, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought 75 lux and Noctilux on ebay (averaged $1900) and now wonder what lens to get with discount. Indoors and candlelight was why the Noctilux made sense for me and portraits seemed to fit the lux. I'm now leaning toward a WATE for the new lens but have never used an exterior finder and wonder if the cron 28 makes more sense? Or the 24? Luminous Landscape's Reichtman said he used the 28-35-50 all the time in Morocco and loved it. Is that a redundant choice with the Noctilux?
Advertisement Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Hi wag, Take a look here What addition to 75 lux and nocti. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
frc Posted January 25, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 25, 2007 Each of them seems to be a good choice to me. To increase the confusion, may i suggest the lux 35 asph.
pesche Posted January 25, 2007 Share #3  Posted January 25, 2007 I find 28 and 75 a good combination for the M8, when you consider the crop factor 1.33, with 37/100 it is near the often used 35/90 combo of the analog world.  If I want to carry only two lenses, 28 and 75 is my favorite combination. I bought the 28 cron together with the M8 - I am very pleased with the lens, it has a good contrast, it has a smoother transition from focus to out of focus areas than other ASPH lenses and it has a good performance even in difficult lighting situations as the example shows.  Peter
DaveEP Posted January 25, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 25, 2007 I went with a 28/cron and a C/V15 as my wide end. The 15 is cheap, and so tiny and easy to carry around that it's a no brainer to take every where.....

wparsonsgisnet Posted January 26, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 26, 2007 I recommend the 24. Disclosure: I own the 24. It is my most used lens on the M8, with the 35 'Lux asph a close second. Â You chose very nice lenses.
marknorton Posted January 26, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) 24 for me too. If later you get the WATE, it will dove-tail nicely in to the range.
j. borger Posted January 26, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 26, 2007 It is impossible to advise somebody else on focal length. I for one do not like the 24/28mm focal length at all (=ca 35mm on full frame/ film) .... i know it's the most popular focal length but for me it is always too wide or too short .... i',m a 50mm person .. so on the M8 i would advise a 35mm lens (cron or lux asph)! But hey .. that's just me I have a nicely filled range from 21mm to 75mm but 35mm and 50mm lenses are used 99% of the time!
macusque Posted January 26, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 26, 2007 28 Summicron for me. But it really depends on what focal lenght you like more. I personally prefer the 35mm on film/full frame, hence 28mm was my logical choice. 24mm is also nice but the Summicron is faster and you can still see the framelines with the 1.25x magnifier on (useful for focussing the Nocti and 75 lux). Â Anyway if you want to "maximize" the discount you should look at the WATE as it is one of the most expensive M-lenses and it will be almost impossible to find used for sometime, while most of the other M-lenses are available on the used market at less than what you'd pay with the 30% discount from Leica... Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 26, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Like Marco the 1.25 is always on and the 28mm works great with it plus a ideal focal length and frame lines. Â I may go for the WATE myself.
