Guest WPalank Posted February 18, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Friends, I'm heading off to one of those exotic locations in the near future and will be bringing my Leica equipment as well as a 55 lb. Pelican case holding my new Broncolor 2 head Mobilite IIs, A2R Pack, 2 batteries (for the pack) and misc light modifiers, stands, etc. On my last trip end of last summer, my insurance agent was quoting me over $2000 with $1000 deductible for a years policy (they wouldn't cover just two months) for the Leica gear alone. My homeowners is with Farmers and they won't give me a rider for anything going outside the US and Canada (I will be far from there). How do others get coverage for international travel? Would it behoove me to join something like WPPI (or another such organization) even though I don't shoot weddings for reasonable insurance rates? Is it possible to get coverage for a month or two as opposed to an entire year? Any help would be appreciated.
Advertisement Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Hi Guest WPalank, Take a look here Camera Kit Insurance. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted February 18, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2011 Wrong insurance company, I guess. Mine covers all locations, all circumstances. BTW, though I now live on the east coast, my agent (who represents several companies) is still in the Bay Area. PM me if you want contact info. ismon Posted February 18, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2011 I've never heard of short term rates. The equipment insurance rates through PPA (Professional Photographers Association of America) are equally disappointing. On the job, my kit never leaves my sight. My main concern was the stuff left at home when I wasn't there. For the price of a premium payment (or two), I got a 700lb. safe. Peace of mind is a beautiful thing. Thanks for the info guys. I will be following up on a lead submitted by one of our Forum members.
