Interesting that I can't recall seeing a single comment on it since the camera was released. Â It's a simple PC program which allows you to change the "SET" menu items remotely and then fire the camera in single or continuous shooting; no control of menu items or shutter speed. With the "SET" menu displayed, the settings change in response to a new selection on the PC. Images are then uploaded on the fly to your PC including both DNG and JPEG and the performance using USB 2 is quite respectable - it's faster than when I use a wireless adapter on my D2x. If you operate the camera yourself, images are also uploaded to the PC without being written to the card, so there's no opportunity to chimp. Â There's a bug - surprise, surprise - in that 4400K is missing from the list of WB colour temperatures, so that the temperature set on the camera is off by one "bump" when you select a temperature above this on the PC. Â Seems a bit flakey making the connection as well, best to switch on the camera and then start the program. Windows gets in the way by saying which program do you want to use with this connection and the Leica program is not included in the list - an installation/configuration problem which needs a registry change to solve. When, finally, it is connected, the program responds with the serial number of the camera connected, showing that the serial number is included in the firmware, not just stamped on the hot-shoe. Â It also crashed a few times, so not quite ready yet for prime time. Â Not clear to me how many people will want to shoot tethererd to a PC, but I could see a use for a wireless add-on. It did work like two out of three times only, I couldn't see any captured shots when I triggered the capture from the laptop, only when I pressed the button on the camera. Â I found it to be a mildly useful tool, although I agree that it is far from "ready" and the USB connection is a pain in the behind. Â Dirk Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Not for the M8! I think this was not a major effort, and is just included in case someone asks. It doens't seem to have any special role in firmware updating, for example. And it is not an uploader to read your files into a directory structure that you specify. Â One thought -- maybe this is where the Easter Eggs are hidden that allow diagnostic information to be extracted from the M8 over its USB line.
