There is none afaik but you can use the regular hood this way if your filter has a filter thread like Leica's.
roguewave Posted February 14, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted February 14, 2011 There is none afaik but you can use the regular hood this way if your filter has a filter thread like Leica's. Unfortunately, it doesn't. I guess I'll use my 40 Rokker instead.

The threads are different and forcing them will strip or crossthread!
lct Posted February 15, 2011 Share #5 Posted February 15, 2011 But don'tovertighten!! The threads are different and forcing them will strip or crossthread! Not a problem between the filter and the hood in my experience, but you are right of course never force when screwing the filter onto the lens. cbretteville Posted February 15, 2011 Share #6 Posted February 15, 2011 I found an 11251 adapter ( 5.5->E39) a while back, bought it from from DAG for about $30. Apologies for the crappy photo. Interesting indeed. My 11251 ring has only one thread to screw it onto the lens but none for a filter or a hood. How do you manage to fit them? lct Posted February 16, 2011 Share #8 Posted February 16, 2011 BTW i acquired the 11251 ring 30 years ago together with 11250 rubber hood and 11252 hood cap for the 'thin' Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8. The purpose of the ring is to retain a serie 5.5 filter into the hood. Reason why it doesn't need any thread for the latter. The smooth front rim of the ring is made to retain the front cap when the hood is collapsed.

My 90-C hood is in great shape, any Ideas where I can find one for a 40-C? I know there are not many around.

How do you manage to fit them? Oooops, that was news to me. I assume then that this is the result some DAG magic. He can make just about anything (and frequently does), so my guess would be that he machined the E39 female thread into the 11251. It is so nicely done that I just assumed it was made this way by Leica. When ordering it I just asked if he had something that would let me fit E39s on an S5.5 lens and the (modified) 11251 is what came in the box with the camera he had CLA'd for me. Xmas Posted February 16, 2011 Share #13 Posted February 16, 2011 Hi I thought you did not need the series retaining ring, with a hood as the hood acted as a retaining ring? Noel
lct Posted February 16, 2011 Share #14 Posted February 16, 2011 ...I thought you did not need the series retaining ring, with a hood as the hood acted as a retaining ring?... Hi Noel you're right for the Summicron 40, not for the Tele-Elmarit 90.
jaapv Posted February 16, 2011 Share #15 Posted February 16, 2011 Heavystar seems to sell adapter ring to E39 including hood.
ho_co Posted February 16, 2011 Share #16 Posted February 16, 2011 Ben, Noel raises a good point--just get a series 5.5 filter and use the hood to hold it in place. (Assuming the 486 filter is available in series 5.5, of course. )
jaapv Posted February 16, 2011 Share #17 Posted February 16, 2011 A normal 5.5 is too thick. For use on the M8 I use the glass of a 39 mm 486 filter rimless and that works fine.
ho_co Posted February 16, 2011 Share #18 Posted February 16, 2011 Good solution, Jaap! Ben has the 39mm filter and the rubber hood, so he could easily just pull the glass from the filter and he's home free.

willwright Posted February 16, 2011 Share #20 Posted February 16, 2011 heavystar sells both a replacement 11251 ring and a 12585 type E39 screw in shade...both very useful...one can use E39 filters with the ring and shade..
