I want to consider the implications to removing the AA filter on 4/3 camera

accepting there would be moire on occasion, and other colour aberrations in pursuit of more sharpness

I can think of 3 conditions:

  • 1. replacing the AA with a thinner weaker version, 'if' you could find out what that was
  • 2. Just replacing the IR filter without the AA in place
  • 3. Leaving both the AA and the IR off and using an IR cut on the lens as per M8

Remember that when you remove a layer of glass between the ccd and the lens, you are shortening the optical path, which means that the infinity setting of the lens will change to some finite distance. It's worse the other way. Add glass, and the lens will no longer focus at infinity, just as if you moved the lens mount out a bit.

yes i understand all that

but since it has no manual focus, just manual focus adjustment (fly-by-wire)

and the AF would work as per normal, if infinity can still be found it should work OK

the sensor cleaning would be a big issue to overcome

it would probably be disabled as a result

i did find this

n the Olympus E 4/3rds models, the AA

filter is fixed to the sensor and a thin plastic membrane just in front

of the AA filter is vibrated to remove dust.

the AA filter is separated from the sensor by a vacuum or air space, and glued

round its edges only.
