wetworx Posted February 13, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Leica R 180/2.8 (non-APO) and a 90/2....and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience or an opinion on using a 2x Extender with either of the lenses. Thanks!
Advertisement Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Hi wetworx, Take a look here Leica R 180mm 2.8 w/ 2x Extender. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted February 13, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2011 ThoughI don't have either of those primes I do have the APO 2X extender and it is superb. You'll most likely have excellent resuts -- Leica's only caveat is to use it with focal lengths longer that 50MM.

a.noctilux Posted February 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2011 11269 is APO-Extender-R 2X I don't have the Elmarit-R 2.8/180 any more. I think you can have good result with this combo, Elmarit 180 plus Apo-extender-R 2X. When I used Apo-Telyt-R 3.4/180 with 2x (non Apo), just from 5.6 my slides were barely less contrasty than with the same lens plus 2x Apo. ismon Posted February 13, 2011 Share #5 Posted February 13, 2011 I've had great success with the old (pre-R) version of the 2X used wide open with both the 180 F2.8 and 250 F/4 two cam versions. Nice flexibility, no problems. (Some photos posted in the Social Groups: Vintage Motorsports)

wetworx Posted February 14, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted February 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) um, question...how do I install it? mine doesn't seem to twist into the lens. I have the 180mm f/4 Elmar-R (3-cam)...http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/180mm_f/4_Elmar-R and the EXTENDER-R 2x (11 237)...http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/APO-EXTENDER-R_2x
stuny Posted February 14, 2011 Share #8 Posted February 14, 2011 Always mount the 2X directly to the camera first, and then mount the lens to it. Reverse the order when removing the lens/2X -- do NOT do it all at once. The 2X mounts on the camera exactly the same way as regualr lenses do. I think I might have to take it back.
wildlightphoto Posted February 14, 2011 Share #10 Posted February 14, 2011 I tried that, but it still didn't twist in. I think I might have to take it back. Which version of the extender, which lens, and which camera body?

Going by the serial, I have the 180mm f/4 Elmar-R (3-cam)...http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-...mm_f/4_Elmar-R and the EXTENDER-R 2x (11 237)...http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-...-EXTENDER-R_2x I've tried testing it on an R5 and Canon 5DmkII (w/adapter) and it fit fine. it's really the just the lens to extender that has the issue. If the probem were only with using the extender on the 5D I'd say the problem is the extender's aperture control lever. With an R body, mounting the extender on the body first moves the extender's aperture control lever out of the way to clear the lens' corresponding lever. The R-to-EOS adapter doesn't move the aperture control lever out of the way. Not working on the R5 is a bit baffling.

I've tried it on a 90mm and 100mm lens as well to no avail, adjusted the aperture both ways. The body cap fits fine tho
