graphictree Posted July 12, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was visiting Drepang monastery and stopped for a moment's musical rest with my trusty iPod. You kind of get a crowd when you do that ... so this pic ensued. What track do you play a young Tibetan monk? Hope he didn't find the heavy metal! Shot with a Digilux 2. gareth
Advertisement Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Hi graphictree, Take a look here Monk with iPod. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted July 12, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2006 Gareth - Adorable, and terrific catch. I frequently like to catch monks doing thing we don't expect of them. On my site have a look at the 2nd row of the 3rd Laos photo gallery, and at the 8th row in the 1st Myanmar photo gallery.
graphictree Posted July 14, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted July 14, 2006 Stuart, thanks for your comment. And I love the monks at the computer on your site! I hope to go to Vietnam / Cambodia in the next few years and your photos have made me even keener. gareth
stuny Posted July 14, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2006 Thank you, Gareth. Be sure to read Barbara's trip notes: they will save you many hours of research for that trip.
djm Posted July 14, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2006 this picture would be immeasurably better with a lot less depth-of-field.
graphictree Posted July 15, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted July 15, 2006 this picture would be immeasurably better with a lot less depth-of-field. agreed, in my defence it was difficult keeping tbs on my leica and the iPod and trying to avoid posed look! Yeah, I know its posed but you know what I mean! ; ) Sounds like the excuse I need to go back ... if I can just convince my wife! gareth
etanguero Posted July 15, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very nice. About the critcs concering DOF: true on the one side, difficult to do with the Digilux 2 on the other. Esp. when you have to do it in a second. eT
ptomsu Posted July 15, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 15, 2006 also monks like iPods
fotografr Posted July 15, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 15, 2006 A really wonderful image. The look of wonder on the boy's face cuts across all cultures and shows how much we are all alike.
tomparis Posted July 15, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 15, 2006 Use film while it's available! So many images get ruined by the DOF of small chips (this one is not ruined, but it would be so much better...) Thomas
Guest imported_stefan_r Posted July 15, 2006 Share #11 Posted July 15, 2006 I can see a terrific uninteresting depth, and some strange red stuff sticking out off his head, also the box beside his face is uninteresting. if you open your lens you will have less DOF. regards S.
