Thanks to the help of some new friends from the Leica world, I found that a (good) old 135 2.8 could be fine for a shooting of a show that is comming pretty soon. But can't find a good lens so far!!! I'm on a budget. I know, it's not a good idea when your in love with Leica's lens, but... As a student in photography, I can't aford to pay more than 500$ for a good glass. Anyone who can help? Please... I'm running out of time...

Jean-Francois,

There are two of these running on eBay right now. All you have to do is search for Leica Elmarit 135mm key words. One has a Buy it Now option for immediate purchase at US$519.00 (German seller), the other one is currently running and is at about US$230.00 (Canadian seller). I feel that US$519.00 is quite high, but if you can get the one from the Canadian seller, you'd have a nice lens. It is being offered by Henry's in Toronto, they have an excellent reputation.

These lenses sell between US$230.00 and US$400.00 on eBay. I bought mine there when I found out that it is the only 135mm lens that can be coded for the M8 and for the extra focusing accuracy the goggles will offer with the M8 finder. I paid less than US$250.00 and with a bit of patience you should be able to find one as well. Mine is the second generation of this lens, which has a one-piece lens shade and same optical design as the Leica Elmarit-R for the R series cameras. Leica M 135mm lenses are not that popular and can be had relatively cheaply.

Good luck,

Jan

leicashop of Wien http://www.leicashop.at is a very serious dealer: 5 or 6 135 2,8 under 500 EUROS, surely good items to buy

I have had good service from them, and I bought my own 135/2.8 there. BTW I would strongly recommend the second generation, not only because of its 55 mm filter thread (first generation lenses use Series filters) but also because these lenses are better wide open. At mid-apertures, they are about equal.

Are we talkin about the M or the R 135? The R is sometimes available on 'bay for less than 150 $, the M seems to be a bit more expensive.

However, 135 is actually not very fashionable (why?), for this price every version is a very reasonable deal, because the lens is pretty good and incredibly versatile. Try the R 135 with a bellow and you will also get a fabulous macro.

Good luck
