david_d Posted January 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2007 Richard: I have a Zeiss Hologon fur Leica-M. It was sold to me with the caveat that I use it and "not sell it in New York". If you enjoy using vintage Leica equipment, it is a delight. Attached, if I can work this new Forum system right, is an image of the Marines Memorial Club Study taken during the LHSA Annual Meeting in San Francisco. The picture was taken while balancing the camera and lens on the back of a chair. You can see that the edge distortion is minimal and the lens handles the strong glare from the windows, particularly the side window shining through a plexiglass box remarkably well. The color fidelity is outstanding. The image is tack sharp. I also have the 15mm Voigtlander Heliar. If I had a "wall-hanger" photo op requiring a 15mm (M) lens, I would use the Hologon lens ( .... and the Heliar viewfinder.) Regards ... David Welcome, dear visitor! bono0272 Posted January 25, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted January 25, 2007 Thank you David. The image looks great, nearly no distortion. But this lens is very expensive in the second hand market, right?
Canfred Posted January 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2007 David this photo is exceptional thank you for sharing. I think the price is justified considering the way it is manufactured. Dr. Erhard Glatzel created a mastepiece. Sadly I will propably never get to use one, its past my budget by a mile.
arthury Posted January 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2007 Thank you David. The image looks great, nearly no distortion. But this lens is very expensive in the second hand market, right? Yes, I saw one a few days ago on eBay listing for $7,800. Take a look at the thread below ... http://www.leica-camera-user.com/leica-collectors-historica/14508-hologon.html PS: If you want sample images, there are some in Flickr.com, search for hologon. Guest Bernd Banken Posted January 26, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) the mentioned Zeiss Hologon-camera had a simple handle made of wood under the body in the center. This was necessary to avoid photographing 2x 3 fingers.... Cheers Bernd

xjr Posted January 28, 2007 Share #12 Posted January 28, 2007 The alternative is the 15mm f2.8 Distagon at around £2500
bono0272 Posted January 29, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted January 29, 2007 The alternative is the 15mm f2.8 Distagon at around £2500 Both the new and second lenses are expensive. There was one Hologon selling in HK last week at around EURO 4000.
tobey bilek Posted January 29, 2007 Share #14 Posted January 29, 2007 Leica Photography International did a comparison with the CV15. The Zeiss vignetted bady requiring the center filter. It then becomes a F16 lens instead of F8.0 . Sharp and no distortion. Aperture is fixed f 8.
