Advertisement Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Hi sdai, Take a look here Leica Wide Strap 14455. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted January 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 24, 2007 Yes, I'm using it, too early to tell how it's going to work out. I expect Luigi's straps are more exotic...

Mark Where did you purchase it. None of the usual stores (BH Photo, Adorama etc) have it listed for sale. Did you perhaps have a U.K. dealer order it for you? Thanks Woody
sdai Posted January 25, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted January 25, 2007 Woody, popflash has it ... I just wondered how folks like it ... I am not making a 100 purchase with 25 on top for shipping. marknorton Posted January 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2007 Woody - I bought 2 of them along with some other accessories from Leica Camera Berlin who do an efficient mail order service. It looks like it's made by the same supplier as the lens cases - comes with the same gold "Echtes Leder" (real leather) label.
Hans Roggen Posted January 25, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 25, 2007 But seriously now: can a strap be so good that it's worth 120 euro? (Just looking for a good reason to order one ) Hans
marknorton Posted January 25, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Luigi seems to think so... Wrong! Just checked his site (has to be the most garish on the internet) and he doesn't charge €120, so the answer is, no, they are probably not worth this much! HI Mark - I've just ordered one from Robert White - they say a week. Have you got your camera back yet? Mine still says 'in repair' dammit! marknorton Posted January 25, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 25, 2007 Been out this afternoon and the strap is good, comfortable to use. Although it has a Leica logo stamped on the back of the neck, it's very discreet compared to the binos strap which shouts "LEICA". It's adjusted with a smart satin chrome "rivet" into pre-punched holes but most people will want it at its longest I expect. The loose ends get in the way and need to be fastened to the strap - a dab of pliable glue will be the answer. If you change the adjustment from the default middle position, there's a certain amount of curl which hopefully will come out in time. They'd do much better leaving the strap unadjusted when they pack it. All in all, an extravagence to be sure but a change to the nylon standard. Jono, my camera was supposedly shipped on 18 Jan, but nothing's turned up, so it's either lost or the record is wrong - I expect (hope!) the latter. Hans Roggen Posted January 25, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2007 Hi Mark, How about the rings that attach the strap to the camera? Don't they scratch the camera, since they don't seem to have the little plastic covers that you get with the original strap. Hans
marknorton Posted January 25, 2007 Share #11 Posted January 25, 2007 Hans, thanks for reminding me! When the strap is installed, the rings are fine because it's the strap which rubs against the camera not the rings. BUT, the rings are split rings - like small key rings - and need to be "wound" onto the eyelet as you would a key onto a key ring. The rings are very tight and I can see some small marks - not scratches exactly - on the outer surface of the camera eyelet. Those split rins must cost pennies and I think Leica could have come up with a higher quality solution for the money.
mhoutman Posted January 25, 2007 Share #12 Posted January 25, 2007 I use this classy strap for over a year on a M7 and since a month on a M8, very comfortable yet expensive. no damage on camera's due to protective leather covers on strap. recommend Michiel
enboe Posted March 8, 2009 Share #13 Posted March 8, 2009 I see the lovely leather strap up for sale on ebay, but was wondering if the rivets that hold the excess strap length onto itself could rub against the top plate and scratch that. Thanks. Eric
wakewood Posted March 8, 2009 Share #14 Posted March 8, 2009 (edited) Is there anybody using this strap? how do you like it? ... thanks a lot in advance. I use them on M7 & MP but do yourself a favour by covering the silver screws for lenth adjustment with shrinkable PVC (or other) tube. Otherwise you will scratch the lens barrel or body. ps: use triangular split rings Edited March 8, 2009 by wakewood adding ps
Tim B Posted March 8, 2009 Share #15 Posted March 8, 2009 I got one of these new recently for my M6. It is a quality leather strap with a flocked anti-slip inside face and, yes, the split rings are very stiff - I marked one of the lugs getting it on. My big criticism, which is almost a reason I may not continue to use it, is that it is so stiff that I cannot easily use it my favourite way - wrapping it round my right wrist to secure the camera in a ready to shoot position. It may soften with time as leather ends to do. The supplied straps that come with the cameras are much better for this. But if you just want the strap over your shoulder or round your neck then it is very nice, strong and very comfortable. BTW my adjusting rivets(?) are black and unobtrusive. Is it worth £100? Can ANY strap be worth that? Am I mad?! Tim
dugby Posted March 9, 2009 Share #16 Posted March 9, 2009 I chose the Leica 14235 leather strap over the 14455. The 14235 is softer / more flexible and easier to pack whilst on my D3 into the Leica Eveready Neoprene camera case. I like it so much I just bought a second 14235 for my D2. marknorton Posted March 9, 2009 Share #17 Posted March 9, 2009 I see the lovely leather strap up for sale on ebay, but was wondering if the rivets that hold the excess strap length onto itself could rub against the top plate and scratch that. Thanks. Eric That's exactly why I gave up using it. On my straps, the screws/rivets are aluminium coloured and will quite happily scratch your top plate. If they are now made of plastic, that might be better. I agree with other posters though, it's not flexible enough. So, a real thumbs-down from me. fotografr Posted March 9, 2009 Share #18 Posted March 9, 2009 I've used one on my M8 for about a year and find it very comfortable. It softens up considerably with use and I've not experienced any scratches on the top plate from the rivets in spite of frequently packing the camera into a bag with the strap stuffed down over the top. That concern could easily be addressed by putting tape around the rivets. I will concede that the strap, like most things with a Leica logo, is pretty grossly overpriced. suden Posted August 5, 2010 Share #19 Posted August 5, 2010 Cant this strap be worn comfortably cross body? I am looking for something like this, but I can't find the length specified anywhere.
