FYI, for those in the U.S. who paid for a Leica M8 by December 31, 2006, here is the list of lenses available for purchase directly from Leica at a 30% discount off the "average suggeested retail price of these Leica products worldwide." The offer states that the price includes "all applicable customs duties, all applicable taxes as well as shipping and customs clearing costs."

Bought my M8 second hand in November 2006. Anyone know if I can get this lens discount/hardware fix?

If you bought it second hand in November, it must have been an original model, and the owner got a hot swap from his dealer, right? You need to become the original owner and pick up the rights that go with being the original owner, incljuding the right to let Leica bring it up to spec. Go back to whoever fixed up the deal for you and get the paperwork to establish yourself as the "original owner" and let the real original owner vanish into the woodwork. He got his hot swap, and you bought into the problems that he didn't have time for. So get yourself an invoice from the original dealer to identify yourself as the official owner, register online, send in the warranty card and you should be invited to join the rest of the program. If the original owner has already registered online, you've got a harder problem.

Actually bought it locally from the original owner. I don't believe that he registered the camera online and I have the blank warranty card.

You'll need an invoice from an authorized distributor to qualify for the paperwork requirements as stated, but you certainly qualify for the spirit of the offer, which is to compensate those who have worked with the early cameras. If there is no hope of generating an invoice and pretending to be the original purchaser, you might try calling Leica in Solms and explaining your situation. When you register online or submit the warranty you say where it was purchased, so you have to have your story straight before continuing. As long as you have the cooperation of the guy you purchased it from, you should be able to work something out.

Thanks Scott. Unfortunately, no such luck from Kurland Photo where the original owner purchased the camera. Seems like I'm on my own and may have to pay for the repair myself. At least I've learned who to avoid when purchasing any Leica gear in the future as all dealers are not the same and some will offer little help in this type of situation.

Now it's time to throw yourself on the mercy of Leica in Solms. If you can show them the history of the camera, so that you fit into the class of those who had faith in the M8 during the dark days of November 2006, maybe they will establish you as the owner of record for this camera. Did the person you purchased it from register it in his name before giving up and selling it to you unfixed? If not, you have a chance of explaining things with his orginal receipt. Can you obtain his orginal invoice? I suggest you register it online in your name, giving Kurland Camera as the source, and see if the computer accepts it. If the computer lets you in, then you have to explain your mixed ownership papers, and I think that might be made to work.
