Moderators, I hope this is OK.

Almost all my Leica equipment was stolen on the train last week. The insurance doesn't cover that particular situation.

My stolen equipment:

Model : LEICA M9 : Serial No. : 3907485 : Date of purchase : 2010-09-14 Comment : Black

Billingham for Leica (small) color black. ; Flash SF 24D. ; 2 x Battery for Leica M9 ; Sandisk Extreme III 16 GB 30MB/s

My hope is that someone hears about it and lets me know. If someone has any information regarding how to proceed in my search, please let me know.

I know that it might seem like a hopeless search, but I won't give up.

Hello Markus,

Welcome to the Forum.

I am sorry your arrival was preceded by this situation.

First I would contact Leica, Solms & report this to them. I'm sure they must maintain a network for alerting agencies & dealers in this situation if anyone comes to sell or have service done.

Then I would notify the police department & railroad police, etc in the town you live in.

Then the police departments, railroad police, etc where you got on. Then the same where you noticed things missing (that might be between towns so both the stop before & the stop after). Then the stop where you got off. Then each stop of your train between where the train originated & the end of the line. Each department in each town. Try to talk to & develop a rapport w/ a person in each place. It will help you focus what you are doing as well as helping them.

Now the hard part: After doing the above I would personally go to all possibly appropriate photography, etc stores from the most likely to the least likely in the broadest area you can beginning with where you noticed the camera missing. Then where you got on. Then where you got off & ask people in those various stores if they have any Leica cameras or lenses. If they do not have your things then ask them where they think you might look for photographic equipment in general. I would try this the length of the train line focussing on larger cities after my above first three foci.

Its a lot of work.

Don't be discouraged & try to do this as quickly as possible.

I hope you find your things. If you need more help just ask.

Best Regards,

Michael

Hi,

If it were me, I would be posting the list on every photo forum possible, notify Leica, and e mail the list to every Leica dealer on their website. I'd also send the e mail to the major s/h dealers in the country where it was stolen.

Good luck, chances are it will turn up in Solms one day.

From which train was it stolen from? If it was in UK then it is very little likely that it will pop up on the market here in Scandinavia, or USA. How was it stolen? Did you leave the bag behind? Did somebody take it from you? May be we could all learn something from this.

The chances are the thief wouldn't be immediately aware of the true value of this kit and might well have offloaded it to someone else to sell on quickly. There is a chance it might turn up in one of the places outlined by the previous poster. I really do hope so.

Sorry this happened to you, but where and how your kit is stolen? If you left the bag on the train, technically it's not really stolen but rather... lost.

If that's the case, hopefully whoever found it is a kind soul and will go to the distance to return it to you, did you left a business card in the bag?

I guess we should all learn something from this to prevent or reduce the chance of this happening to someone else again.

Cheer up, I know this could be hard, but at least try! Now you know you have the excuse to buy another kit!
