woodyspedden Posted January 24, 2007 Share #1  Posted January 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey everyone  I have been made aware of a very exciting opportunity to visit both Leica and Porsche on a 10 day trip to Germany and Switzerland from June 17 - 26, 2007.  Leica and Porsche are sponsoring this trip to introduce both their companies and to provide both training and fantastic photo ops during our stay. The hosts forthe trip are David Farkas of Dale Photo & Digital, Christian Ehrhart Marketing Director for Leica US, and Ralph Hagenauer, the Director of Leica Akademie in Solms. During the trip Leica will be providing cameras for all and Porsche will be supplying the cars. Instruction will be provided by the Leica Akademie and instructors will be guiding our photo opportunities as we travel around Germany. We are invited to bring spouses or significant others to make the trip even more fun.  The detailed itinerary is as follows:  Day 1  Arrival at Frankfurt airport and transfer to Wetzlar. Check-in at the Wetzlarer Hof. Tour historic Wetzlar, the birthplace of Leica and the 35mm format. Walk in the footsteps of Oskar Barnack and see the beauty of this 1000-year-old charming romanesque town that inspired the legendary Leica rangefinder camera. Dinner at the hotel.  Day 2  Take a behind-the-scenes look on a private tour of the Leica factory in Solms. See old-world craftsmanship in a state-of-the-art facility. Learn about the past, present, and future of Leica technology in a special session at the Leica Akademie. After lunch, get instruction on improving photo composition and techniques. Then, spend the afternoon shooting in neighboring Braunfels with its beautiful castle as a focal point. Dinner at a traditional Wetzlar inn.  Day 3  Depart for Heidelberg. Regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, Heidelberg has been a center of learning since the middle ages. Enjoy the day exploring and photographing the Old Town. Check-in at the Nestor Hotel in Ludwigsburg. Dinner at the hotel.  Day 4  Arrival at Porsche AG. After filling out paperwork and a brief orientation with the cars, our convoy departs towards Switzerland. Stopping for lunch at the restaurant Schlössli Woerth, which overlooks the breathtaking Rheinfall (Rhine River Waterfall). Following lunch, we travel along Lake Zurich and the Sihlsee toward Vierwaldstaetter, with plenty of stops for pictures. Check-in at the Parkhotel Vitznau in Vitznau, Switzerland. Champagne reception and four course gala dinner at the hotel make for an elegant close to the day.  Day 5  The Porsche caravan heads back to Germany along the Zuger See. After lunch at the restaurant Alder in Haeusern, we continue along the southern part of the Black Forest with stops for pictures. Check-in at the Brenner's Park Hotel in the resort and spa town of Baden-Baden. Dinner at the hotel.  Day 6  We continue along the northern part of the Black Forest with photo stops. Following lunch at the restaurant Traube in Tonbach, we head back toward Ludwigsburg to return the cars. The motor coach picks up the group and heads to Fuessen, where wecheck-in and have dinner at the Hotel Zum Hirschen.  Day 7  Depart for Castle Neuschwanstein, one of the most famous castles in Europe. This royal palace in the Bavarian Alps was built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the late 1800s. Many might already recognize the castle; it served as the model for Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disney Land. After being taken to the mountain top to get the best views of the castle and the surrounding landscape, we go to Fuessen for a photographic walk of the city center. Cocktails and dinner at the hotel.  Day 8  On the way to Munich, we make a stop at another Ludwig II royal palace, Linderhof Castle. What was originally planned as a modest villa-style hunting lodge, Linderhof materialized as a Rococo palace built in the ornate French style. Ludwig fancied it as the New Versailles. Following a photographic tour, we board the coach to head to Munich. Arrival at the Holiday Inn Munich Center and dinner at the hotel. After dinner, we catch the blue hour in the center of the city, for some post-sunset street shooting.  Day 9  Most of the day will be occupied with a one-day photo experience tour in the center of Munich, the capital of Bavaria. We will see City Hall, Viktualien Market, and other notable scenic spots, with some quality time visiting the Hofbraeu-Haus for snacks and authentic Bavarian beer. The afternoon is a free day to explore Munich, take pictures, or shop. Dinner at the hotel.  Day 10  Transfer to Munich Airport and return to the US.  Cost for this magnificent trip is 5100 euros for each principal traveler and 4800 euros for spouses etc. Price does not include airfare, but does include hotels, most meals, the Porsche cars, and taxes. David Farkas of Dale Labs is coordinating this trip and would love to hear of your interest. Space is limited to 13 people so don't delay. Please email David at info@dalelabs.com or call him at 800-327-1776.  Hope to see some of you on this wonderful trip.  Woody Spedden

arminw Posted January 24, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 24, 2007 I've always wanted to do such a trip and know that Porsche offers those tours several times a year "without Leica" Having the two together would make it a rather special experience. I considering taking part if they take UK people as well?

marknorton Posted January 24, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 24, 2007 I can certainly recommend "Traube in Tonbach", one of the best restaurants/hotels in Germany. I spent a very pleasant time there in September. Slightly surprised a trip round the Porsche factory in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen is not on the agenda; Ludwigsburg is a marketing operation. Even so, a great trip, I always enjoy visiting Germany on both business and pleasure.
elansprint72 Posted January 24, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted January 24, 2007 Porsche will explain at great length the process they go through in checking their products before they release them. Â Pete.
graham_mitchell Posted January 24, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted January 24, 2007 I was just in Zurich and Germany a few days ago. Plenty to photo opps, particularly if you haven't been to this part of the world before. I've also done the Porsche factory tour. Highly recommended! Book in advance. No cameras allowed in the factory.
Enoteca Posted January 24, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted January 24, 2007 Guy, no chance. I will offer to be the volunteer, as I am living nearby in the magenta-forest. Don't mind. If ever you will come to Germany, remind my adress - you'll be my very special guest (not as good as the "Traube Tonbach" as Mark Norton mentioned - but quite good!). Greetings from Freiburg Manfred

It is meant, what is said. The only problem might be, that if we meet and begin to enjoy my restaurant, AF end even manual focussing will get hard and harder every minute. Thanks for being here!
