jaapv Posted January 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine (the first version one) just returned from Solms for a combined upgrade/ freeze-crash repair, and I noticed Leica replaced both battery and battery-charger

Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 24, 2007 I think this is a very important comment to read I sent a e-mail today to leica about some of the battery issues that folks are having in regards to charging and getting a full battery charge, which i believe is some of the issues we are seing in this shut down mode after using a battery for a short time and the camera dies. This is the advice from germany on how to handle this; Hi Guy, Here is some info I received about the M8 batteries not getting a full charge... Customer Service in Germany advises the following: The customer should access the menu, scroll down to “Auto Power Off”... Select “Disable”... This will keep the camera from going into the standby mode... Leave the camera switched on over night so that all power is drained out of the battery... This basically forces the camera into a reset which will eliminate the problem... It will reset the battery charge bars on the camera display... Once completely empty the battery can be recharged and the problem should be solved... I have been told that it is not a defect of the camera or of the battery... The bug will also be fixed with the new firmware (February release) __
carstenw Posted January 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 24, 2007 Jaap, can you post a picture, or does it look the same?
wparsonsgisnet Posted January 24, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 24, 2007 Jaap, would you mind posting a pic of your current charger? I am interested if the charger that was shipped with my version-2 camera is the same. tnx.
LJL Posted January 24, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 24, 2007 O.K., have to ask the obvious question: If one sends just the camera back to Leica (in this case, the NJ facility where the only asked for the camera), is Leica then going to ship the camera AND the new charger AND battery after the repair in Solms? That would be nice, if that is the appropriate "fix". Let's hope we do not have to start shipping chargers and batteries back and forth as we are with the M8 body! wparsonsgisnet Posted January 24, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 24, 2007 LJ, I believe there was a posting here having to do with a letter from Leica, that mentioned that they want only the camera (packed in its part of the original shipping material) and nothing else. LJL Posted January 24, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bill, I know. I got that letter myself. Shipped my M8 off to NJ on Monday. They got it yesterday. What I was asking about is with respect to this "new" solution of the battery and charger related issue. Is Leica essentially replacing the batttery charger and battery with a new unit? Would they just send those from NJ when the repaired M8 is returned? What I would NOT like to be doing is having to now ship a battery charger and battery to Leica to be replaced with a newer model. If they send me a new model first, so that I can actually use it with my repaired camera, I would be happy to ship the replaced items back at some later date. Not sure if that is clear or not. wparsonsgisnet Posted January 24, 2007 Share #8 Posted January 24, 2007 Aah. Well, since Jaap got the new shipment with new charger and battery, he may be able to shed some light on your question.
jaapv Posted January 24, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted January 24, 2007 It is not a new type of charger; it is identical to the one that came with my 2nd version body(and the first one as well) Leica replaced the original battery and charger, obviously because they were defective. I described the symptoms of my camera on the telephone to the technical department in Solms and they requested that I include the charger and battery to check out. I also included a SD card with shots that showed the faults of my camera and a few prints of the same. They were correctly returned, the prints were obviously handled. marknorton Posted January 25, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2007 Jaap, as a matter of interest, how did you know they had been replaced if they look identical?
jaapv Posted January 25, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted January 25, 2007 New in the box and brand-new looking. Not my marks of use. Batteries I number with paint, the old charger had a small scratch.
