Hoaxville Posted February 7, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, I'm looking for a used 75mm Summicron. I prefer the look and feel of 'older glass'. I have a 35mm Summicron (type IV) which I love for this reason. I'm not sure how many versions Leica made of the 75 Summicron, but is there an older version that I should be looking for that may have similar characteristics to the 35 Summicron I have? thanks. g -- http://www.hoaxville.com
Advertisement Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Hi Hoaxville, Take a look here Older version 75mm Summicron?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tgray Posted February 7, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2011 They only made the current one. If you want an lens with a more 'classic' look, you should look for the 75 Summicron. Of course, it's bigger and slower to focus. I think the only other 75 that was made is the current Summarit.

I'm confused - I thought that the only older 75mm was the Summilux f1.4, and that the only current offerings are the Summicron ASPH f2 and the Summarit f2.5. treeplanter Posted February 7, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 7, 2011 As already mentioned, Leica has only made one version of the 75mm Summicron. The did make a 75mm Summilux that was in production from 1980 until a few years back. They also currently make a 75mm Summarit. The 75mm Summilux probably has the most "character" of the three, but it's relatively large and heavy and expensive. Jim B.
adan Posted February 7, 2011 Share #5 Posted February 7, 2011 " If you want an lens with a more 'classic' look, you should look for the 75 Summicron." is a typo. Should be "Summilux". And the 75 f/1.4 Summilux does indeed date from the exact same time period as the v.4 35 Summicron - designed by the same designer (Walter Mandler of Leitz Canada) and made in Canada for the first dozen years or so of its run. There are of course two very old lenses for screw-mount that come close to the 75mm focal length and will "look old" - but not the same as the 35 Summicron. The 8.5cm (85mm) Summarex f/1.5 from the 40s-50s, and the 73mm f/1.9 Hektor from the 30s through WW2.
01af Posted February 7, 2011 Share #6 Posted February 7, 2011 As others already said, there is only one version of the Apo-Summicron-M 75 mm Asph. If you want a more classic look then the Summarit-M 75 mm is all you need. Very high performance yet classic look, nice bokeh, and only a tiny bit slower than the Apo-Summicron. H. James Wolf Posted February 7, 2011 Share #7 Posted February 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Summilux 75 is an ideal companion for the 35 Summilux pre-asph. The 75 is heavy, slow to focus, and produces wonderful results wide open or stopped down. I have a Summicron as well and it sits at home while the Summilux goes out a lot.
