DaveEP Posted January 24, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) What is the average file size for RAW files on the DLux-3? Â Are all RAW files 16:9 or do they also come in 4:5 and 3:2 ?
Advertisement Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Hi DaveEP, Take a look here DLux-3 RAW Files. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ckthual Posted January 24, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 24, 2007 For some reason, it's very big, about 19.6 Mo, almost twice bigger than a Canon 5D Raw file, I don't know why. And the raw file can be 16/9, 3/2 or 4/3. A good option while shooting raw is shooting 16/9, then decide to crop at 3/2 or 4/3 to be sure not to miss anything... that's what I tend to do ! For information, a 19.6 Mo D-LUX 3 file coverted to a lossless DNG file makes 7.4 Mo. Good thing to know for storage ! )

Guest malland Posted January 24, 2007 Share #4  Posted January 24, 2007 Actually the full 16:9 file is recorded, and the when you use Photoshop or Lightroom, which both use Adobe ACR as raw developer, the cropped frame is shown if you selected 3:2 or 4:3 format. Other raw developers, such as Raw Developer (Mac only) and Lightzone show the full 16:9 frame, and you have to select what you want. SILKYPIX deals with this the best: it shows the frame as you shot it if you framed in 4:3 or 3:2 format, and you can select a cropping tool that shows the full 16:9 frame from which you can select what you want in any format.  —Mitch/Johannesburg http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
DaveEP Posted January 24, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted January 24, 2007 Hmmm... it also appears that both RAW and JPEG files are saved when RAW is selected, and JPEG cannot be disabled. Is this also correct? Can 'only' RAW be saved on the memory card?
ckthual Posted January 24, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 24, 2007 > malland : thanks for the info. I'm using ACR, which, you are right, doesn't offer me the possibility to retrieve the whole image if it was originally shot in 3/2 or 4/3. It's good to know Raw developer, Silkypix and Lightzone allow this. > DaveEP : I have the same problem, I don't use the jpeg file, so it takes space on my SD card and i have to delete it after downloading the picture... if someone finds a way to change this parameter....... Leica? Anyone?
Guest malland Posted January 24, 2007 Share #7  Posted January 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Like other digitsl cameras, the D-Lux 3 saves a JPG file in additiion to the RAW file. The JPG is necessary for displaying the saved picture on the LCD screen.  —Mitch/Johannesburg http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
