JGW Posted January 23, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I went back to my dealers last Saturday to get the M8 warranty cards stamped etc. He let me borrow a 28 F2 lens to walk around the town with to see how the framing worked out, as I'd mentioned to him that I was disappointed with their inaccuracy beyond 70cm. When I got home, I noticed the frame selector lever was missing! It must have just fallen off while I was using the camera on the streets. I hadn't noticed it being loose beforehand, and I certainly didn't accidentally knock the camera anytime. I didn't even touch it as far as I can remember all that day. I don't suppose this has happened to anyone else's M8? It's never happened on my other M cameras over many years of use. I'm wondering if the build quality of these cameras is as good as it should be, with the electrical faults, rangefinder adjustments needed, etc. Earlier Ms seem to have this lever attached in a different way i.e. more securely. carstenw Posted January 23, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 23, 2007 It hasn't happened with anyone else's lever, that I am aware of. There will always be problems with some individual cameras, but until it becomes a pattern, we are just dealing with statistics. There are plenty of photographers who have had problems with previous Leica M cameras as well, but they got fixed. I am sure that the person who attached it had a momentary lapse, and forgot something. Just get it reattached and be happy. Life is too short to worry so much. Here is one page which complains about previous M cameras, just for fun: J'Accuse Leica
arthury Posted January 23, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2007 I have even accidentally bumped my head against M8 and guess who won ... ouch! Nope, I have never had the frame selector dropping out: not in my M6TTL nor the M8.
