Nicoleica Posted January 28, 2011 Share #21 Posted January 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do crocodiles eat seals? Pete. No Pete, that would be Polar Bears. You cannot mix sealskin with crocodile. It would clash horribly. But sealskin and white fur matches beautifully. Have you ever seen an eskimo with a crocodile handbag? KM-25 Posted January 30, 2011 Share #27 Posted January 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was about to say the same thing -- there is a long post (and many, many follow-up comments) about acquiring and using the M9 Ti here: It’s Not the Photographer, It’s the Camera Stupid! The M9 Titanium Arrives. By ~6 | STEVE HUFF PHOTOS Curiously, I found myself reading it in an idle moment and for some reason -- maybe Seal's infectious delight in the camera, his recognition of his good fortune in being able to afford one -- being nowhere near as disgusted as I expected to be.... Neat write up and pretty slick looking camera, cool he chose the last one. That said I would still rather have shot the last frames of Kodachrome in history like I did on the 18th instead of owning the last Ti-M9, but that's just me... KM-25 Posted January 31, 2011 Share #30 Posted January 31, 2011 I wonder how many people claim to have shot the last Kodachrome in history? I know, I know, it sounds nebulous when one considers that anyone who has the film can get it developed as black and white, but that is not Kodachrome. A call to the lab manager will confirm I shot the last frames in the timeline that were processed, at least in terms of real K-14 and the last frames on the very last run. Dwayne finished his roll before my last two even his came out of the processor last. This is actually going to be pretty important in terms of a marketing hook in getting a book published and I need all I can get. While you were all collecting a paycheck from your salaries as doctors, lawyers, CEO's, etc, I was draining my bank account, passing on work and losing clients all in the name of this project. I was dead broke until I sold off a good bit of my Leica kit on ebay tonight, still a few more items left to go, leaving me with one M3 and a collapsable Summicron to use, all the rest of the Leica kit that I used to make more than 60% of the photos being sold off. Yep, you guessed it, that ticks me off but what can I do? If I can publish a great book and bring in some income from it, I will get my self an M9 and 35mm 1.4 version-II. If not, then I really can't afford such a luxury when a Nikon D700 and the new 35 1.4G is going to do 99% the same thing if not better. Still waiting for my last 100 rolls that were shot after the 30th, then my lovely new wife and I can start setting up for a massive edit and scan session. I have 68 unexposed rolls left put at the bottom of the freezer under about 800 rolls of black and white, doubt they will ever see the light of day. I think I am done here for awhile, it is *really* frustrating at times to see all this incredible gear going to doctors, lawyers, dentists and famous musicians when it could be in the hands of some super talented photographers who would make imagery with it that would blow your mind. But that is what Leica is all about these days, isn't it, bling in the hands of those who can afford it, but not push it to the limit in terms of raw talent. You can take offense to that if you want ( not you Andy ) but imagine for a moment how it feels to be in my shoes. I asked Leica for some form of support since I was really showcasing their gear, I got nothing. I just sent my LHSA 50 Lux off to NJ to get the damn oil droplets off of one of the lens elements which had formed there a matter of weeks after I got it but could not send it in because I needed it for this project. I got told that a pro service membership would not speed up the 8-12 week waiting time. Oh well, at least I have all these wonderful Kodachrome images I made with Leica cameras and lenses when I owned them, the M9 can't touch that. Best of luck to you all... Try not to be so bitter about it. It's just camera stuff - there will always be plenty of it about. Besides, you still have an M3 and 50 Summilux (when it gets back from Leica NJ). I asked Leica for some form of support since I was really showcasing their gear, I got nothing. Leica doesn't seem that interested in film cameras nowadays. That said, did you speak to the right people? They always seem to have plenty of stuff to lend to the bloggers and 'reviewers'. Kodak presumably had a different attitude? andybarton Posted January 31, 2011 Share #32 Posted January 31, 2011 I know, I know, it sounds nebulous when one considers that anyone who has the film can get it developed as black and white, but that is not Kodachrome. A call to the lab manager will confirm I shot the last frames in the timeline that were processed, at least in terms of real K-14 and the last frames on the very last run. Dwayne finished his roll before my last two even his came out of the processor last. That’s going to be something that will be very hard to prove. You will need a sworn affadivit from Dwayne’s if you want to make a claim like that in order to support your book. While you were all collecting a paycheck from your salaries as doctors, lawyers, CEO's, etc, I was draining my bank account, passing on work and losing clients all in the name of this project. Not everyone here is a CEO, a dentist or a lawyer, with all that entails in terms of disposable income. There are many, many people here who support their photography through much more run-of-the-mill jobs. Indeed, some senior members here have no regular income at all and find it hard to know where the next income is coming from. So, please, don’t make gross generalisations about other members. You must have known what you were getting into when you started this project. IIRC, you have shot 1000s of rolls of Kodachrome and now have the monumental task of editing that lot down into a book. No one has held your hand over a flame in order to make you do this, from what I can see. If you couldn’t afford to do this, or didn’t receive any sponsorship, then maybe you bit off more than you could chew? If I can publish a great book and bring in some income from it, I will get my self an M9 and 35mm 1.4 version-II. If not, then I really can't afford such a luxury when a Nikon D700 and the new 35 1.4G is going to do 99% the same thing if not better. So, you haven’t got a deal to publish the book yet? Ouch! You are having these last 100 rolls processed as B&W? I think I am done here for awhile, it is *really* frustrating at times to see all this incredible gear going to doctors, lawyers, dentists and famous musicians when it could be in the hands of some super talented photographers who would make imagery with it that would blow your mind. Doctors, lawyers and dentists (and lots of other people) have worked hard to enjoy what they do and can spend their income on whatever they wish – including Leicas. Ditto famous musicians – although some are given kit as a means of publicity. It works. But that is what Leica is all about these days, isn't it, bling in the hands of those who can afford it, but not push it to the limit in terms of raw talent. You can take offense to that if you want ( not you Andy ) but imagine for a moment how it feels to be in my shoes. If you have “raw talent” you will have no problem finding a publisher for your book and I wish you well. But, being jealous of others is not an emotion that you want to be carrying forward into the text that accompanies the book, IMO. Leica’s marketing is spent on supporting their digital line of cameras, of course. New film Ms make virtually no difference to their bottom line and therefore do not deserve support. They will sell themselves to interested amateurs, mainly. No doubt Kodak weren’t interested in sponsorship, since they wouldn’t want to be seen to be supporting a film that they had just discontinued – that makes a lot of sense from a shareholder’s point of view. Oh well, at least I have all these wonderful Kodachrome images I made with Leica cameras and lenses when I owned them, the M9 can't touch that. Best of luck to you all... And good luck with the rest of the project. I am very pleased that someone had the balls to go out and do what you have done – especially since it was self-funded. Let us know when the book is published. Thanks
wattsy Posted January 31, 2011 Share #33 Posted January 31, 2011 Not the last roll processed, but Kodak made a point of giving the last roll manufactured (or so they say) to Steve McCurry.
andybarton Posted January 31, 2011 Share #34 Posted January 31, 2011 Steve McCurry will have done more for sales of Kodachrome than just about anyone alive, I'd say. I think it's fitting that he should have been given the last 36 frames to play with.

Super talented photographers will make good pictures with almost any camera, but you know that. I'm sorry that you found no support for your project before you began it. What you need is a patron, and to that end it might be good to put some distance between the personal you, your personality, and your effort. The project and the pictures speak for you. Best of luck to you.

Noel hey guys, focus please??somebody please give me some info about M9 titanium's actual price, thanks.
