geoffsm Posted January 25, 2007 Share #123  Posted January 25, 2007 1. 1  2. Yes, this one second generation body  3. No  4. Couldn't try this as I don't have a second battery.  5. Yes, what I did was take out the battery and charge it overnight. The camera sat with no battery overnight and in the morning I put the (now "fresh") battery back in.  6. N/A  7. N/A  8. As I recall, the battery level was a full 3 bars, but it had been used at that point for some 30 shots. I don't recall specifically experiencing any of the usual signs of static electricity (e.g., getting a "shock" when touching someone) at the time, but it is winter on the east coast and static electricity is certainly higher than other times of the year (and had experienced "shocks" earlier in the day).  Please add any comments that might help to clarify your answers to these six questions.  As of now the camera seems to be back to normal, however when I first turned it back on in the morning after re-installing the battery, I saw a "long flash" on the card access LED and the camera seemed un-responsive. I turned it off and back on and it seemed to have reset or woken itself up somehow and is now working normally.

barjohn Posted January 26, 2007 Share #129 Â Posted January 26, 2007 I just got mine yesterday so I feel it is too soon to give a meaningful response. I have only shot about 100 images since I am off at a conference and have been busy with meetings. This weekend I plan to give it a thorough workout and can then give a more intelligent response. rpierce Posted January 27, 2007 Share #133 Â Posted January 27, 2007 Sean, Â Mine went in for the Fix in early Dec and UPS tried to deliver it today. For the four weeks prior to returning it, I did not have any freeze problems, but it didn't get much use. The only potential problem I saw was when it was turned off, portions of a faint image remained on the rear screen...on and off again and it went away. It needs much more of a workout to see if these issues show up. Â Thank you for your help and efforts. Â Bob Pierce

kdemas Posted January 29, 2007 Share #138  Posted January 29, 2007 Sean,  I have not seen this issue with my M8.  Kent  1. How many M8s have you either owned or used regularly for more than a week? 1  2. Have any of these cameras shown the behavior described above? Please answer for each camera and note if the camera is "first' or "second" generation. No (1st generation)  3. If yes to #2, did the camera return to normal operation after it was turned off and its battery removed briefly and reinstalled?  4. If yes to #2, did the camera return to normal operation after it was turned off and a fresh battery was installed?  5. If yes to #2, did the camera return to normal operation after it was turned off, left without a battery installed for a longer period of time and then had the battery reinstalled? If so, how long was the interval where it sat with no battery?  6. If yes to #2, did the camera fail to return to normal operation after various steps had been taken? Did the camera need to be returned to Leica?  7. If yes to #6, did Leica indicate what needed to be repaired on your camera.  8. If yes to #2, did you note the battery level on the camera just before it showed this behavior? What was the level? Did you note static electricity in the area or any other factors that might be relevant?
Shootist Posted January 29, 2007 Share #139 Â Posted January 29, 2007 M8 owner since Thursday. 194 images take so far. Not one problem, other then color shift on certain blacks.
