Sean, I have had a freezing problem twice with my M8: once within the first week and once at week 5.5.

I have been using this camera since 12/13/06 and have shot just over 2300 pictures with it.

I own only one M8 and so far have only one battery. This is a 2nd-gen camera with 1.09 sw.

In both cases the symptom was

A) If the camera is turned off and the battery is removed briefly and reinstalled, the M8 responds normally.

The first time this happened, the battery was well-charged.

The second time, the battery was 2/3 discharged.

This camera has been treated with kid gloves -- that is, not dropped, not used indoors after being in the cold, allowed to rest after turning it on so as to avoid the "rainbow-like scratches," and always turned off for SD and battery changing.

I have noticed no static electicity problems at all.

After both of the malfunctions, the camera performed flawlessly.

Thanks for doing this task for our community.

Regards,

I have 3 and trying to get all my facts straight but every camera has had a battery failure of some sort . Personally i think there are some bad batteries or the voltage is dropping to low and it fails. This is not a camera issue but a battery issue and it's performance at less than full charge

1. One since mid-Nov

2. Yes, gen 1

3. No

4. Yes, battery was re-charged

8. Battery was 2/3 full

Comments: I suspect the battery was drained when the switch was in the off position. This happened twice and I think I might have turned the camera off while the LCD screen was on. Since then I always make sure the LCD screen is off before turning off the power and this problem has not recurred for about a month.

I always like Guy's thinking. In my 2 failures, the battery was fully charged for one and 2/3 discharged for the other.

It has never happened when switching on. When the freeze occurs, switching off/on doesn't help, but off-remove battery-replace-on works.
