Washington Posted January 17, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) If someone has any info on where I can get a 68mm UV filter I'd appreciate it. I have Googled it naturally I and I come up with 68mm everything but what I need. The one supplier offering such is a well known rip-off artist who takes your $ and runs: Ali Express. ( yeah, they have everything you need, right) Thank you kindly.
Advertisement Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Hi Washington, Take a look here Need: 68mm UV filter for Leica Project. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted January 17, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2011 I haven't looked but is there a step-up ring available to, say, 72mm which puts you in Nikon country. Heavystar on ebay has all kinds of different things.
Washington Posted January 17, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted January 17, 2011 Thanks Mark, But I need an actual filter as the lens hood screws into the female 68 mm threads. Back when this lens was made perhaps 80mm was available. eBay might turn one up eventually. Thanks again.
jaapv Posted January 17, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 17, 2011 What you could do is get a step-down ring 68-67 and a 67 mm filter.
Washington Posted January 17, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted January 17, 2011 Thanks jaapv, No, still the same problem as the hood supplied with the lens (and very necessary) has 68mm male threads. I could find another lens hood I suppose but nothing like the one supplied with the lens. Also, the lined leather "Kilfitt" embossed end cap fits the lens-hood like, well, a glove! jaapv Posted January 17, 2011 Share #6 Posted January 17, 2011 You really have a problem; 68 is a very unusual size, not supported by the major manufacturers.
Nicoleica Posted January 17, 2011 Share #7 Posted January 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) You could use a step-up ring to the filter, then a step-down ring to fit the hood afterwards. Not pretty, but it should work.
ho_co Posted January 17, 2011 Share #8 Posted January 17, 2011 Maybe check with B+W. At one time, I think, they would make anything.
Washington Posted January 18, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks folks. This really is a bit of a sticky-wicket. I've looked everywhere with no luck. Lord, it's times like these that I so miss my machine shop. Constructing a 68mm double-threaded ring to accept someone else's 67mm glass would be a simple project. Thanks again. Cheers. Washington Posted January 20, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted January 20, 2011 Thanks guys: but I have to make this a do it myself. Paying a good man to do a good job would cost two or thee times what I payed for the lens..... and he'd earn it. There would be some time in this job. pico Posted January 22, 2011 Share #13 Posted January 22, 2011 Can you fit a filter into the lens shade? It may not be made for that, but I've fit odd sizes that way. I just measured a Tiffen 72mm and the glass is 66mm when removed from the ring. Might that fit inside the shade? .
rpsawin Posted January 23, 2011 Share #14 Posted January 23, 2011 Try Heliopan. When I needed some 69mm filters for my LC1 they had them. Just a thought... Good luck, Bob
