WestMichigan Posted January 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have a 'Due Diligence' question regarding some Leica Equipment Purchases I'm looking to make. My main query is whether if I skip a Used Camera for a demo/refurb unit out of Europe which comes with a 'Leica Europe' Warranty... Will that Warranty 'seamlessly' be valid here in my native USA? Sincerely Richard in Michigan ps: The specific basis for causing my pondering the issue is a Dealer in Europe offering some M8.2s (ex-demo or refurb?). When I inquired about the Warranty - they responded with 'full leica europe warranty' and my followup inquiry, with specific questions, was simply responded to with 'passport warranty'. (iirc) I'm Lost. I don't understand -clearly- Leica's warranty process, Leica Europe Warranty, or the differences -entirely- of the 'Passport Warranty'. earleygallery Posted January 14, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 14, 2011 Passport is an additional 'warranty' which covers pretty much everything - like if you drop the camera and break it! As it's an M digital it would almost certainly have to go back to Solms for any service work, so just send it there directly yourself.
jaapv Posted January 14, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 14, 2011 Passport warranty only for Leica gear purchased in the UK, but valid worldwide. All other Leica guaranty is worldwide.

Johnny_Johnson Posted January 14, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 14, 2011 Thanks for your inputs Fella'sR. Just a word of caution. Leica USA quite likely won't honor the warranty for a camera sourced from Europe and, if so, you would have to send it to Germany for warranty work. If the difference is important to you then it would be prudent to ask Leica, NJ before making the purchase. Cya, JJ
