thisaccountisdeleted Posted January 23, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted January 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Should I leave the battery inside of the camera during shipment or should I take it out? Â don't ship the battery to them. i didn't and there was no problem. it's one less thing for them to lose. just send the body with front cap in the inner foam-cutout box, no battery or sd card. surround that with bubble wrap or peanuts and put in a second box. include a note with you name, address, phone numbers, email and any other problems you want fixed. others mentioned marking the box with "M8" on the outside.. but i didn't. Â i suggest a nice single malt -- laphroaig perhaps -- to help you through the long lonely nights while you wait for its return.
Advertisement Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Hi thisaccountisdeleted, Take a look here email from leica new jersey. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
blakley Posted January 23, 2007 Share #22 Â Posted January 23, 2007 I shipped mine without the battery, and in fact I'm not letting my battery out of my hands for any reason. I finally managed to get a second one today (while the camera is on holiday being fixed, of course) but they still seem to be rarer than unicorn feathers, and there's no way I'm taking a chance! gesper Posted January 23, 2007 Share #23 Â Posted January 23, 2007 Don't send battery, card, strap or anything except the lens body cap. They have plenty, and all they can do is lose yours.
craigrmurray Posted January 24, 2007 Share #24 Â Posted January 24, 2007 the grey box, filled with foam with a cutout for the body. and yes, you can send without it, but it's a pretty safe transport vehicle which is why they recomend it. wrap very securely in bubble wrap if you don't have the box. John: Â Thanks for the info. I'm staying in my second home right now, and don't have my original box, hence the question. And I really wanted to send it back ASAP. woodyspedden Posted January 24, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted January 24, 2007 I suspect that Leica NJ is waiting until they get X number of units before they ship themm to Germany. That way it lowers the cost of shipping. Actually I talked to Robert yesterday and he told me they bulk ship to Solms every Thursday. So time your shipment to get to N.J. on Tuesday and you will get out that Thursday. He told me that the turnaround time in Solms is currently 2 weeks so for everything i.e. shipping, customs clearance both ways, and actual repairs the M8 will likely be gone for about 5 weeks. Rummy Posted February 3, 2007 Share #26 Â Posted February 3, 2007 I sent my M8 to Leica, NJ on the 3rd of January. My shipping point was NJ so the camera arrived on the 4th. I believe it first appeared on the Leica repair web page on the 13th, entered repair on the 17th and was completed around the 23rd or 24th. I am not certain about the dates because once the camera was in transit the web site no longer listed my camera. I have emailed Robert Fisk at Leica, NJ concerning a shipping tracking number and have yet to receive a reply. I am thinking that the batch shipping concept is correct whether going or returning. I would suspect that I will get it back soon.
tbarker13 Posted February 3, 2007 Share #27 Â Posted February 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My camera was deliverd to NJ on Jan. 2. It went to Germany shortly after. It was returned to me (or rather my home) yesterday in Florida. Sadly, I'm in St.Louis and won't be able to get my camera for another month, but that's another story. grober Posted February 3, 2007 Share #28 Â Posted February 3, 2007 USA: plan on six weeks. I sent mine via 2-day air to NJ on 12/1 and received it back on 1/18. Seems to work as promised. Looking forward to those two IR-cut filters! Â -g
