I had been thinking about it since the very first moment I tried to get that d@mn strap on the M8. That rubbery bit in the middle is inane. It's shiny, hurts my hand when wrapped around my wrist, it sucks, sucks, sucks.

I finally took the Contax strap that had been adorning my M6 for years and put it onto the M8. I can't begin to tell you guys how happy I am. To celebrate i took a walk around the block with the 15mm and 40mm CV.

I have two brand new never used Leica straps. After trying it on an M6, and later an MP, I gave up on it. When I got the M7, I didn't even bother putting it on the camera, same for the M8. I think it's understood in the Leica world that the Leica strap is a decorative item that comes in the silver box.

I use the neoprene strap made for Leica's binoculars on both my D2 and M6. Works very well for me.

Edit: The straight one that I have seems no longer to be available. Thats a bummer. A contured one with huge Leica lettering (another bummer) seems to be it now,

I found it IS possible, with some patience, to peel that obnoxious rubber sausage off altogether, without harming the webbing. The result is worth the effort, for those occasions where a neck strap is necessary (in most cases I prefer some kind of wrist strap)

I'm obviously in a minority of one here, I quite like the M strap, let me put it this way, I always throw the strap over my right shoulder and the camera hangs down under my right arm. I have found this to be the first strap I don't have to keep adjusting to prevent it slipping from my shoulder.

This is my cheap standard textile anti-slip strap

Hi Carsten ,

That is not a standard wrist strap, as you will see in the picture

I was under the impression that the binocular straps would not work on the M's. I might go ahead and order one of these from Tony at Popflash.

Have him verify it first. Looks like the fastening mechanism has been changed from the style they had a year ago when I last bought one of these.

Edit: As long as the with of the webbing is the same, you should be able to use the 'ring' and locker from the original strap, but again. Check it first.
