mike prevette Posted January 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had been thinking about it since the very first moment I tried to get that d@mn strap on the M8. That rubbery bit in the middle is inane. It's shiny, hurts my hand when wrapped around my wrist, it sucks, sucks, sucks. I finally took the Contax strap that had been adorning my M6 for years and put it onto the M8. I can't begin to tell you guys how happy I am. To celebrate i took a walk around the block with the 15mm and 40mm CV. _mike
wilfredo Posted January 22, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 22, 2007 I have two brand new never used Leica straps. After trying it on an M6, and later an MP, I gave up on it. When I got the M7, I didn't even bother putting it on the camera, same for the M8. I think it's understood in the Leica world that the Leica strap is a decorative item that comes in the silver box. cbretteville Posted January 22, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2007 I use the neoprene strap made for Leica's binoculars on both my D2 and M6. Works very well for me. Edit: The straight one that I have seems no longer to be available. Thats a bummer. A contured one with huge Leica lettering (another bummer) seems to be it now, - Carl

macusque Posted January 22, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2007 I love your second image Mike ! As for the strap, I much prefer R-D1's one. I'm gonna sell the R-D1, but maybe I'll keep the strap
elgenper Posted January 22, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I found it IS possible, with some patience, to peel that obnoxious rubber sausage off altogether, without harming the webbing. The result is worth the effort, for those occasions where a neck strap is necessary (in most cases I prefer some kind of wrist strap)
Eoin Posted January 22, 2007 Share #8 Posted January 22, 2007 I'm obviously in a minority of one here, I quite like the M strap, let me put it this way, I always throw the strap over my right shoulder and the camera hangs down under my right arm. I have found this to be the first strap I don't have to keep adjusting to prevent it slipping from my shoulder.

truando Posted January 22, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 22, 2007 Luigi's strap is really great and has a classic look. Made of fine leather.

AlanJW Posted January 22, 2007 Share #14 Posted January 22, 2007 Now's its a minority of two. I happen to like the Leica strap, especially the hated-by-some rubber thingie -- it stays put on my shoulder.

mr_big Posted January 22, 2007 Share #16 Posted January 22, 2007 Same here, the optics straps from Leica are way nicer than the camera ones... Dirk I was under the impression that the binocular straps would not work on the M's. I might go ahead and order one of these from Tony at Popflash. http://www.popflash.com/item.cfm?id=%23%25%3E6K%0A
stunsworth Posted January 22, 2007 Share #17 Posted January 22, 2007 Make that a minority of three :-) I like the straps for the reason given earlier.
mat_mcdermott Posted January 22, 2007 Share #18 Posted January 22, 2007 Weighing in on the great strap debate: I've fallen in love with the ones that Artisan & Artist make. I use both their padded neck strap and their wrist strap depending on the occassion. They are a joy to use are made of some really fine leather. cbretteville Posted January 22, 2007 Share #19 Posted January 22, 2007 I was under the impression that the binocular straps would not work on the M's. I might go ahead and order one of these from Tony at Popflash. Have him verify it first. Looks like the fastening mechanism has been changed from the style they had a year ago when I last bought one of these. Edit: As long as the with of the webbing is the same, you should be able to use the 'ring' and locker from the original strap, but again. Check it first. carstenw Posted January 22, 2007 Share #20 Posted January 22, 2007 I just bought a 35 Cron Asph, and as a present, I also received a Gordy strap. It is really nice, and I immediately put it on the camera. It looks so thin though. Does anyone have any experience, positive or negative, with these? gordy's camera straps
