billco Posted January 4, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm about to purchase a Macbook Air 13" and would like to find a case that would carry it well, along with my M9, 50mm Summilux and 24mm Elmarit, plus the charger. Does anyone know of a great case for this particular combination. Weight and size are critical as I will be using it on an 18 day trip (off and on trains and planes). I could be talked into going down to the 11" MBP I guess. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated.

jrothchild Posted January 4, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 4, 2011 I have a similar set of stuff - M9 with 3 lenses, charger, etc + MBA 11" (much better choice than the 13" IMO) + ipad and a whole bunch of other stuff. I got the Crumpler Karachi Outpost Small for traveling and it is amazing!!
Constable Posted January 4, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2011 Billco That is exactly my kind of configuration. Fits in a Billingham Hadley Pro with no problems. Room for other bits amd pieces as well. I use the digital side pocket as well. Enjoy your trip. Ed
Revdockj Posted January 4, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 4, 2011 I use the Billingham Hadley Pro, as well, with a MacBook Air 11", M9 and three lenses (room to spare). Don't see why the 13" wouldn't fit. Ken
ger1g0 Posted January 4, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 4, 2011 Give us a little more to work with. Are you new to Leica and the world of rangefinders or are you an old hand? Do you have current bags that you've used and like? Backpack, sling or shoulder bags? I have a Macbook Air 11" and I usually use 2 rangefinders when I'm out. One has a 35mm lens and one, a 90mm. I find that the whole kit fits really well into the Billingham Hadley pro. I have more camera bags than you can shake a stick at, such National Geographic, Kata, Lowepro, Crumpler, Thinktank and Artisan and Artist. I still finally go back to the Billingham, because it's inconspicuous, really well made, quite thin, quiet (no velcro) and waterproof. Word of caution about the Billinghams. Its made in a way that will mold to your body because all though the bag is padded, it's made of soft material. I really like that about the bag, because it's not too thick and it feels close to you. But if you put a computer or an iPad in the slot in the rear of the main compartment, you loose that molded quality and it feels like it stands out a lot more. menos I M6 Posted January 4, 2011 Share #7 Posted January 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) An Artist & Artisan Oskar's Daybag fits this purpose perfectly. I use one since a few weeks, but squeeze an 15" MBP instead - it works, but the bag would fit an 13" a lot better.
jan_brittenson Posted January 4, 2011 Share #8 Posted January 4, 2011 I've used a Kata DR-466i daypack for three weeks in Cambodia and Vietnam. It has a bottom photo section that holds my M9 with a 35/2A, WATE, Leica 16-35 VF, CV 21 VF, CV 12, CV 12 VF, 75/2, 135/4. I can have the RRS L bracket+grip on the camera and it still fits. The sleeve holds my 15" MacBook Pro, and the small top section will have whatever I want for day use - bug stuff, sanitizer, sunglasses, a book, reading glasses, SD card wallet, rain cover, camera strap, plain bottom plate, LED headlamp, etc. The Velbon 530 tripod with Acratech head straps to the side of the bag. When I don't carry the tripod the strap used to hold it is removable and the foot pocket stuffs into its own tiny side pocket. The silly waist band is removable as well, and I shortened the excessively long adjustments straps and cut off the chest strap (which is useless and just dangles all over the place). It's a great pack for carry-on, light day use, or a more serious shooting bag. Kata KT DR-466I-BG Digital Rucksack (Green) KT DR-466I-BG B&H The images show it with a miniscule tripod, but it will carry a more regular size one just fine, with one leg in the pocket and the strap around the entire tripod. I must say I like this thing a lot; it's an extremely versatile travel bag.
MikeD700 Posted January 4, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 4, 2011 Tumi Alpha Bravo Benning messenger bag with appropriate Domke or Billingham inserts? Extremely durable and non-photographic looking. Slippery strap though so best worn messenger bag style. Michiel
Broadoaker Posted January 4, 2011 Share #10 Posted January 4, 2011 I use a throwback to my D3 days, which is perfect for my M9, 3 lenses and MacBook Air 13" Official Nikon Digital SLR Camera & Nikkor Lens Carry: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics. It will also take a book and travel documents, etc. It's durable and unfashionably cheap. I'm now going to wash my mouth out with soap.

Do you have current bags that you've used and like? Backpack, sling or shoulder bags? I am new to the rangefinder world. I also own a Nikon D700 which I carry (with 24/70 mounted) in a LowPro sling bag, along with 3-4 other lenses, filters, charger, etc. I purchased the Leica because I like the size and weight aspect as well as the great image quality they can provide. While out and about in Italy, I plan to just carry the camera and maybe one lens, maybe not even carry the bag itself. But for travel from US to Italy, and from city to city within Italy, I would use the bag to carry the M9, lenses, MBAir, charger, etc.

d2mini Posted January 12, 2011 Share #15 Posted January 12, 2011 I'm really liking my Artisan & Artist GCAM-7000. I'm using it as an "ever day" bag. I was looking for the same as you except I wanted to carry my iPad instead of an Air. I tried the Billingham Hadley Pro but it was a little too fancy foo foo for me, even in black. I also didn't like the buckle system, bulk, or the front pockets. I ended up returning it and buying a Domke J-803, but that was a tad too tight for what i wanted and I didn't like the way the 3-compartment insert attached, nor the buckle that held the flap closed. So I sold that and got the GCAM. My only qualm about this one is the front pockets, similar in lack of security to the Hadley, but everything else is stellar. I might eventually add a little velcro to the pockets. This is my second A&A bag.
mdozier Posted January 12, 2011 Share #16 Posted January 12, 2011 ThinkTank Photo. Not too expensive and very well made. All designed by photographers. They've got a couple Urban Disguise versions built specifically with inserts to add a MacBook. I use one capable of taking a 17" Mac Pro when needed. m
rob139 Posted January 13, 2011 Share #17 Posted January 13, 2011 I have just bought the Timbuk2 Snoop camera messenger. The small version. A very nice bag, very sturdy. With a removable padded camera insert. Fits my M8, and at least three other lenses, or two bodies with lens and two other spare lenses. It also fits my 13inch Macbook. Happy with it. I Use it as an everyday bag. Not too expensive either. Rob
