patashnik Posted January 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to CameraQuest and Cosina, the 35mm Nokton f/1.2 has been discontinued, and the factory is sold out: L&VM Wide- Lens Discontinued items http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1506887&postcount=30 Just a heads up for those of you on the fence, it is still available on eBay for $979, but CameraQuest and PhotoVillage have already increased the price to $1199. Somehow I don't expect this to stay in stock for a very long time. Looking at Cosina's latest track record I wouldn't put my money on a) a new lens coming, and the new lens being an improvement. Advertisement Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Hi patashnik, Take a look here Voigtländer 35mm Nokton f/1.2 - discontinued. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Dan States Posted January 3, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 3, 2011 Wow, that's pretty much their only interesting m mount product at this point. Surprising.
Xmas Posted January 3, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 3, 2011 Either low sales volume or quarantined glass, first the most probable. Noel
jamesk8752 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 3, 2011 Adorama still lists this lens for $979. I'm guessing that this price will not hold for long - their stock will disappear quickly or they will increase it to the new market price. Glad I got mine last summer! Guest finofoto Posted January 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 3, 2011 As a heavy user of that rather good lens and after "monitoring" the CVL product policy the last years i personally could imagine that the new "35" light star lense could be an aspherical version in 1,4.... ..or: CVL is leaving that sector in order to give new Zeiss lenses a chance;-))) Thomas According to CameraQuest and Cosina, the 35mm Nokton f/1.2 has been discontinued, and the factory is sold out:L&VM Wide- Lens Discontinued items http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1506887&postcount=30 Just a heads up for those of you on the fence, it is still available on eBay for $979, but CameraQuest and PhotoVillage have already increased the price to $1199. Panasonic has a great professional M43 video camera, the AG-AF100, and CVL came out with the 25mm F 0.95 which works on the G1 and the AG-AF100. farnz Posted January 3, 2011 Share #7 Posted January 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think the 35/1.2 Nokton is nicely set up to become one of those legendary lenses about which, in years to come, people will say: "Oh how I wish I'd bought one when they were still available." "I can't believe I sold mine." "The 35/1.2 had a signature all of its own." "Why oh why did Voigtlander stop production of such an excellent lens?!", and "It's the best Voigtlander lens I never had." etc etc. Pete.
Archiver Posted January 6, 2011 Share #8 Posted January 6, 2011 Wow, I'm glad I bought mine in December last year. It does have a lovely soft signature and the low light capabilities, along with the M9 files in Lightroom, are awesome.
tgray Posted January 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 6, 2011 I have a hunch that CVL is getting into the Micro 4/3 (M43) lens market. A hunch? They did announce their joining of the Micro 4/3rds system back in August when they announced the 25mm. So I would say your 'hunch' is a correct. leicashot Posted January 8, 2011 Share #11 Posted January 8, 2011 I didn't expect much play on this forum about this lens. Lats time I tried comparing it to the Summilux it nearly ended in blood ;-)
drewleavy Posted January 8, 2011 Share #12 Posted January 8, 2011 I ordered one on eBay on the 17th of December just before this kicked off! Just got it yesterday (after my £150 VAT and duty payment!). So far I'm pretty impressed. It's certainly bigger and heavier than my 35mm Ultron F1.7, but it feels very sturdy. The lack of a lens cap to go with the shade is confusing, especially as I seem to e on a run of losing caps off all my lenses these days! I took it out for a walk to the chemists with my wife. She Is a good benchmark of lens performance, IMHO. My Type IV 2/50 Summicron loves her. It just seems to find an extra sparkle in her eyes. I am therefore very pleased with the F1.2 Nokton. It seems to be up to the job of capturing something 'extra' in my wife's gaze. Sorry to be so mawkish when discussing a lens, but I hope you will understand what I mean. 2/50 Summicron (pretty much straight from DNG, as I recall) Susan - like a ray of sunshine | Flickr - Photo Sharing! So I would say your 'hunch' is a correct. I was hardly clear. Sorry. I should have written that Leica could get further into the Micro 4/3 VIDEO market. Leica already has three, perhaps more, lenses for Micro 4/3 video (rebranded Panasonic?). At work we are pretty excited by the M43 video format. Corvi Posted January 16, 2011 Share #14 Posted January 16, 2011 Cosina is btw in the middle of development of a new 35/1.2 lens. The Type II will be available early summer 2011 they say .. Wrote them an email to ask is there will be replacement and they told me i shouldnt bother with the old one too much and rather wait till they got the Type II ready Lets see if they manage to make it a tad bit smaller and make it a bit better wide open .. If so, I hope it doesn't suffer from similar back focus and focus shift problems that my CV 35/1.4 did. I'm surprised that Cosina Voigtlander sees it as a good idea to have a 35/1.2 and a 35/1.4 in its lens range. I can't see how the 35/1.4 would survive if the 35/1.2 was of similar size and performance. Pete.

Clive Murray-White Posted January 16, 2011 Share #18 Posted January 16, 2011 And.......there I was thinking my recent mint $850 (eBay) later version had just become a nice little investment if I ever felt the need to sell it.

Clive, I suspect that it still will be. In my opinion CV hasn't had a good track record with its recent fast M-mount primes (28/2, 35/1.4, and 50/1.1). It seems to have created small form factor lenses at the expense of optical performance in some samples, perhaps owing to variances in build quality. While your lens doesn't have a small form factor (for M-mounts) it typically has superb optical performance, which I suspect will make it a sought-after lens even if a CV 35/1.2 II is brought to market. I am surprised that a manufacturer would discuss a new product before it has been announced anywhere. Sorry for the late answer, just saw it yet .. Well, seems so. Ask yourself, they prolly gonna tell you too. And, why shouldnt they ? They have absolutely no competition with this lens. Neither Leica nor Zeiss is ever going to build one of these. So they are alone with that lens and probably can talk pretty openly about it. Anyways : ... We would like to draw your attention that the aspherical lens element used for Nokton F1.2/35mm is no more available and due to this we had to decide the discontinuation of this model because we can not produce. Now we are working on to develop modified Nokton F1.2/35mm Type-II using new type of aspherical lens. We aim to start the shipping of Type-II version from early summer in 2011. Please note that discontinued model has been out of stock. So we would like to ask you to do without 1.2/35mm till modified Type-II is produced. ...
